President Tinubu Approves N70,000 Monthly Transport Allowance For Public Workers

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a monthly transport support of N70,000 for public service workers across all levels, as the four-day deadline issued by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, to shut down the economy over the fuel price hike and minimum wage dispute ends on Tuesday, October 27.

The resolution was reached on Tuesday October 27, 2026 after a meeting between the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, and the leadership of the NLC, led by Joe Ajaero.

According to the Federal Government, the transport support, which is expected to commence on November 5, 2026, will last for six months to cushion the impact of rising living costs.
The Federal Government also approved the payment of outstanding peculiar allowance arrears, effective from May 1, 2026, in three equal monthly instalments beginning in November 2026.

Similarly, the Federal Government and the NLC agreed to constitute a negotiation committee that would commence meetings immediately to determine an effective date for implementing a new national minimum wage.
The NLC had given the Federal Government a four-day deadline to reduce fuel prices and review the ₦70,000 monthly minimum wage.

  1. Six months of transport support will help for now, but Nigerian workers need a permanent, realistic wage structure...not just interim relief. Make we see how the negotiation committee go deliver first.

I normally wonder what goes on in your brain, you and Glory O.
Who should listen to Mr Presido? Did you read up there where he asked them to reduce fuel price? Or you saw another news of this nature in your dream?

  5. I think the name of NLC should be changed to CSLC - Civil Service Labour Congress because it seems they are only representing the public servants. Some may argue that the snowball effect of increased benefits for public servant will lead to the OPS ( Organised private Sector) following suit but it is hardly the case. Where is NLC when pensions are deducted and not remitted? Where is NLC where contract workers are working slave hours and earning peanuts? When outsourced labour has become the new form of circumventing employment that benefits the worker? Do NLC reps not see the various vacancies where jobs are being advertised for 40K ? Where is NLC in so many other labour related scenarios? You only see them when it involves the organisations they can arm twist and get settlements from e.g the MNCs and Telcos. 70K for 6 months. smoothening the road up to election period . Maybe this is one of the reasons for the billion dollar loan they are looking for.
