The items include transformers, cables, switchgear and other materials meant to strengthen the national grid.
Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe confirmed the development and said that engineers will inspect, test and refurbish the equipment before deploying them to complete stalled transmission projects and reinforce weak parts of the grid.
The clearance followed President Bola Tinubu’s directive after the minister raised the issue.
The Ministry of Finance waived the accumulated charges that kept the containers locked up, while Customs, NPA, terminal operators and the Transmission Company of Nigeria worked together to release them.
Tegbe called it an important first step and promised updates on the remaining two hundred plus (200+) containers still at the ports. Officials say most of the recovered items are still usable and will help improve electricity supply once installed.

Power equipment locks up inside this same Nigeria for almost 20 years and nothing was done about it . Thanks to president Tinubu for his prompt response.

They should pls start action to use the ones released and not be waiting for the rest....Something tells me that the next news will be that they are unusable and we need to buy a fresh set. The wickedness of our leaders needs to be studied.
