Ex President Obasanjo Explodes ''Nigeria Is A Cursed Country!''

“We had some people who were under 50years in leadership positions. One of them was James Ibori, where is he today? One of them was Alamieyeseigha, where is he today? Lucky Igbinedion, where is he today?

“The youngest was the Speaker, (Salisu) Buhari; you can still recall what happened to him. You said Bola Tinubu is your master. What Buhari did was not anything worse than what Bola Tinubu did.

“But in this part of the world some people covered up the other man. The man claimed he went to Government College, Ibadan but the governor (Oyo State) went to Government College and packed all the documents so that they would not know that he did not go there.

“I wanted someone who would succeed me so I took Atiku. Within a year, I started seeing the type of man Atiku is.

"And you want me to get him there?

“I once went to Tanzania because Julius Nyerere recognised Biafra. He told me not to mind his aides and others in government. They would say they have one house in town but their five year old sons and daughters would have houses all over.

“Some of you who are condemning the leadership would get there tomorrow and it will be a different story. Only very few are actually good.

“Abacha, my predecessor got $750m. Through our lawyer in Switzerland we recovered $1.25bn and the lawyer still said there is probably still another $1bn to be recovered. In 1979 we had 20 new ships specially built for Nigeria. When I came back 20 years after, the national shipping line had liquidated.

“The whole thing is not just about leadership. If we talk about good leadership you should also talk about good followers. If you talk about human right you should also talk about human duties and obligations.

“It is sad that after 53years of independence we have no leader that we can commend. The problem in Africa is that when one person takes over he would not see any good thing that his predecessor did. Let us condemn but with caution,”

Obasanjo said all these on Tuesday in Ibadan, while reviewing the history of Nigeria as a keynote speaker at the 4th Annual Ibadan Sustainable Development Summit by the Centre for Sustainable Development, University of Ibadan, and African Sustainable Development Network

  4. What he did? They will say GSM, he brought Virgin Atlantic and then the Virgin Nigeria deal. What else? Look at who is talking. Like a relative of mine said if Abacha had killed OBJ we won't be where we are now. I disagreed when he said it but I agree now.

  5. Ah! Stella dont say that o! Wasnt it in OBJ's tenure that we significantly reduced our foreign debt, It was in his tenure that construction of the NIPP power plants commenced (if not for opposition by states and local governments based on the federal monopoly of the use of excess crude funds account for this project). Who gave Akunyili the support she needed to fight fake drugs? Now Baba was no saint and he was a bully (to say the least)and was unable to execute a proper succession/transition but he got us further than Jonatahan and Yar Adua did.

  8. "they will say GSM"? As if its easy.... Do you know what communication has done for this country? How many deals have you closed over the phone both locally and internationally? How many people are employed by MTN, Airtel, Glo and Etisalat? Not to talk of auxiliary service providers for this industry. If not for anything, not having to queue at Nitel to use the phone booth is a major plus. FYI Virgin Nigeria scattered because of corruption with FAAN and the aviation authorities - stated by Branson himself.

  13. Please it was IBB that commenced the introduced of the GSM technology but was rolled out in Obasanjo's regime. Research properly. So it summounts to saying that I can't remember what exactly he did apart from looting government treasury and the insatiable desire to die in power.Though, I will agree with him that its not just the government that is bad but bad followers. Followers, that continiously empower these looters by always taking fake election results even when we know its forged. I have observed the passion we have when some sensitive issues arise and the drive in spreading d campaign like in d last campaign against child marriage and dv. And I say, only if we move strongly like this also on the nation's issue against rotating same set of visionless and selfish individuals and salvage our nation for our children, even if we don't reap immediate results...restore the judiciary to know that the poor can have justice on his side and not swayed cos of wht who can offer....the legislature, that what we say in our constituencies are tabled properly to bring down development to the very interiors and the Executive, that actually cares for its citizenry, by providing insentives on health, education and other basic things that even small organised countries benefit when 'true leaders' govern. Together we can move things. Chidikay

  15. When they are on that 'seat' our leaders are deaf to the cries of the masses because they live in opulence.

Now, they are out of eldorado, the scales have fallen off their eyes!

Those that have sold the 'soul' of their 'mother' to the devil out of greedy, let them be cursed instead!

God deliver Nigeria from her bondage.

Let the truth be said Baba did a lot than all those that have come after him,am sure if he had succeeded in the third term agenda am sure Nigeria would have been better for it,if you look at the above statement 'you will criticize the present government when you get there you will do worse,no govt has continued from where the other left even Yar Adua that baba put there first thing they do is to probe all contract awarded for 2yrs then still go back to do the same thing the old man did when he was in power with another name HE HAS DONE WELL BABA I PRAISE U

  21. Yes we can begin at fresh Mr OBJ by you standing trial for the evils of your regime also.It would have been perfect if you also reminded us of what you did as President and refuse to account for.Your no saint but an epitome of evil also.

    What happened to
    1)$16bn Rural Electrification Scheme
    2) why did you order the killings of Zaki-Biam and O’odua Peoples’ Congress members
    3) Why did you embark  on do-or-die politics which led to the death of thousands of people
    4) Deregulation without petroleum products
    5) Commercialisation of social welfare services
6)Breach of human rights, arbitrary arrests, abductions, intimidations,
Several instances of  bribery and corrupt wasteful use of Nigerian resources happened during ur tenure. The economy declined n inflation went up resulting in high unemployment, there was political instability, dictatorial mode of governance, mass poverty, social insecurity and disharmony and crime.
Assassinations of Bola Ige, Harry Marshal etc and the use of EFCC as some sort of Nazi force in hunting down oppositions. Yours are to numerous to recount Mr OBJ so keep shut n preach to ur self. You created 99.9% of Nigeria's problems

Whatever he wants to do he does it and doesn't mind what anybody will say. Atleast during his tenure, our foreign debt was drastically reduced. He brought telecomms to Nigeria and also helped in sum oda areas. We knew we had a strong and able president den unlike nw dt we don't even know who d president is btw Gudluck Jonathan and Patience Jonathan.

  36. There are some mens that needs to be eradication for 9ja to improvement a bit. OBJ and IBB dey the list. These mens leaves power since yet they still controls the affairs in 9ja.

We thot Jona was gonna be difference but it seemed he is their puppet. Yesterday, I management to wash CNN from a friend's house and see where they speak about Boko Haram, previous, they does and interview with Jona and he say he had everything in checked and that security measurements has been put in place, but the CNN investigating later find out that Jona didn't have it in checked. All Na yarns.

It is going to took time for 9ja to be good again bhet certain peoples needs to be eradicate for that to happens and all those people running to the abroad to investment, come back home and let build our country.

  40. I remember the salary increase too. I was an intern in one of the federal hospitals then, and even then as interns our own salaries too were increased. We were so happy and had a feast in my office department then for almost a week. Baba is noo saint of course, there were definitely management and corruption issues too when he was there, but you cant' compare him with GEJ, or even Yaradua. He surpassed them by far. I also think he wold have been able to curb the Boko Haram sect, if he was still in office. Apart from his experience as an ex general, OBJ is his own man and not given to any unncessary sentiments. He does what he feels right withoutcaring whose ox is gored. That's why a lot of politicians are intimidated by him

  43. The problem with Nigeria is bad leadership. No matter what obj did in the past he was still a bad leader. The corruption within the government has itself trickled down to the masses. Young children today are even as corrupt as the elders. The government has failed the masses and in their promises to the masses. Youths are very angry now. Every one at the top just wants to loot and get out they are not thinking of the young people. what nigeria needs is a jolt, we need a revolution to whipe out bad governance and replace it with good governance. I see it comming soon if God taries in his comming. The youths suffering has reached an intolerable level now. I agree that Nigeria is cursed the cultist and leaders at the top have shed so much innocent blood just for blood and money. The blood they shed is crying out in vengeance. If you have shed blood as a leader now is the time to repent cos there is no hiding place for the wicked when Gods vengeance comes calling.

  45. there will soon be a revolution i cant wait for all these old so called untouchables to be wiped out. I cant wait for the likes of obj, ibb, salami, jona and the rest to be come history and irrelevant. We need young people in the government. All you senile old men need to retire seriously. you need to get gone instead of stealing our hard earned cash and slowly liquidating our country. we need peace and good governance. We need jobs for our youths, good and free education, a much higher standard of living for every one. We need access to better healthcare we dont want to be flying abroad every time we are sick. Mr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan we dont want you to be forced on us any more or else there will be a revolution. I personally am prepared to refuse your government. Youths lets form a new political party with young persons at the top. You old gizzards need to retire for fresh young minds with good and better ideas to move us forward. I want my people to stop dying of hunger and lack of jobs. I want you useless leaders to stop killing our young ones for ritual purposes. Your actions have put us under a course

  46. Oh please! Saying Obasanjo is better than Yar'Adua and Jonathan is crap. That's just a classic case of choosing the ugliest amongst your friends/family as members of your bridal train, so you can easily outshine them on your wedding day.

Obasanjo practically foisted those duo on us. I remember vividly how he arm-twisted more than 90% of the Presidential aspirants till they stepped down for Yar'Adua. Even though, Yar'Adua's era was short lived, at least he was the First President to reduce Fuel price and also promise not to increase same within a year (a promise he kept), Amnesty to ND militants is also an achievement on his part.

    Obasanjo is a pure weist.
