Abuja And Lagos Should Have Different Time Zones.

Please read the following write up very well and be constructive in your analysis about the different time zone idea...Will this work in Nigeria?wouldn't this cause even more problems for a Country that is yet to find its feet even after 50years?

Please read what Dike Anthony proposes!

Hello Stella,

I was in Abuja 3 weeks ago and then observed the following:

- When it is 6am in Abuja everywhere is as bright as 7am in Lagos;I was so confused on my first day in Abuja, had an appointment only to wake up by 6am thinking it was 7am. Then I found out that many people were awake and the day was so bright that u could see so clearly but this is not obtainable here in Lagos;at first I thought there was "shorter night and longer day",only for the trend to continue.

- When it is 6pm in Abuja, darkness would have covered the entire place, unlike here in Lagos, when darkness is noticed at around 15mins To 7pm and perpetual darkness after 7pm. Hence the conclusion:

- That if there is a difference in time between Manchester and London, why can't there be one here in Nigeria since the above facts can be establish?

- New york and some states in America have different time zones; but why is anyone not seeing that here in Nigeria?

- I think since Lagos is +1GMT, Abuja should be +2GMT

- Would love if my fellow SDKers could as well acknowledge these facts and let's make this known to the appropriate quarters that NIGERIA is so big to have different time Zone.

Thank you so much Stella for being YOU;I have enjoyed every second of your blog.
Thanks a million!

    3. As in eh, there is no way I can contribute constructively to this ridiculous suggestion bet I go try. Mr dickhead Anthony go and look at the map of the United States, if you can't understand why that country has different time zones then no one can help you sir.

D guy is so rite! I noticed it too and kept wondering. I tot it was d whole longer day nd shorter night thing. However, from about last week, its been d reverse, d day dosent break on time in abj and d sun sets quite late in d evening! I think a different time zone thing should be considered.

  5. -what month of the year did you make theses observations?
    - does the same apply in all months of the year?
    - as far as I know, Manchester and London have the same time; and
    - different time zones in USA is necessary because the time difference is so much, up to 6 or 7 hours.

  13. So its the amount of light or darkness you want to use to determine the time in this 21st century?

"I think since Lagos is +1GMT, Abuja should be +2GMT"

Just like that? Just Guesswork should be used to determine time difference, if there's any.

We have meteorological agency in Abuja and the states. They can't even get the weather forecast right because they are probably still using 10th Century equipments.

Abeg leave our time as it is. We can't even access basic necessities of life, time difference is the least of our worries.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Lmao!Simply adjust ur own wrist watch by one hour nah. Its like u didn't do geography in second schl. Its determined by lat and longitude. The minor difference in long and lat is not sufficient for one hour time change

  15. LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL, there is no difference in time between Manchester and London !

    ReplyDelete
  16. London and Manchester are not on different time zones oh!

    ReplyDelete
  17. True as it may be, i think we shld leave the time zones the way they are, changing it will only bring confussion, ppl inAbuja are already used to the time and the weather. Anthony pls suggest something useful other than changing time zones.

  18. Re-that if there is a difference in time between Manchester and London, why can't there be one here in Nigeria since the above facts can be establish?

Where did you get this notion from? It is so incorrect.

Have you been to Maiduguri or Damaturu? You may have more to say about this when you get there.

  19. Does London & Manchester really have different time zones?

  23. How weird... Pls the time zone should remain the way it is... I was born in abj, grew up there and moved to Lagos and found out it dawns early here unlike the north, and everyone is already on there way to there respective place of work... So I think its just abt getting use to a new place... The sun rises somewhere and set somewhere.... So there's nothing like +2gmt...

    ReplyDelete
  24. Mr observer there's no time difference between manchester and London....do your research well. Nigeria is yet to crawl so don't bring dat!

  29. Idiot, do you realize there is a system and method to selecting timezones? Ahan! Didn't you go to school ni?

  30. U dnt just wake up n chnge time zones u dumbfuck, its dependent on d longitude n latitude of dt particular location....greenwich meridian divides d earth into east n west just as d equator duvides d globe into north n south..London has d same timezone as Ghana cz d same GM dt cuts tru London cuts tru Ghana....

    ReplyDelete
  31. Guess the poster didn't take his geography classes that serious. There's a specific norm guiding these things. For every 15 degrees in longitudunal difference makes up for an hour difference in time. So the big question is ...between Lag and Abuja; is their such difference?. The answer is no!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Wow! Believe me, he z ryt! But dat z d least of my problem ryt nw.... I am tired of staying at home oooooo! ASUU abeg nw!

  33. Poster. America is a country and a continent. Hence the time zone difference. Africa is a continent and we have different time zones in africa. So please ehn, relax

  34. Tunde Olodo oshi.....

Time zone is based on longitudes and not waht about what time you think it is when you wake up...go back to your geography and learn and so stop feeding people with your empty, non-factual the-way-it-ought-to-be!

Nigeria is lying on longitude 3 - 15degrees. 1 hour is equivalent to 15 degree of longitudinal differences. So, tell me how can Lagos & Abuja have 2 time zones when the longitudinal differences across Nigeria is not even up to 1 hour. Mumu olodo oshi

I am a smart young girl nah...

  38. This will be my first post. From geography, every change in 15 degrees of longitude equals to one hour change. Nigeria fall within same degrees of longitude so it is not obtainable.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I didn't finish reading your article cos I know perfectly what you are talking about,it either you are visiting abj for the 1st time or you havnt being living here for long.it wasn't like that before I guess it is the longer night shorter day stuff,so I guess it is the season.

  40. Na wa o. Geography in high school woulda helped the dude out. You think say na Government dey determine time zones?

    ReplyDelete
  41. ppl dat av jobs would be worried about being late to work....joblessness thrives amongst youths in nigeria..i doubt if dey will be bothered about time zoning

    ReplyDelete
  42. Its not true, I live in Abuja, now its 18.14 pm and still very bright. U can't determind time zone difference by spending 3 weeks in a place

    ReplyDelete
  43. English dictionary defines time zone as,"Area with same standard time: any of the 24 longitudinal areas into which the world is divided and within which the same standard time is used. So this explains why Lagos and Abuja are in the same time zone.

Manchester has the same time zone with London because the distance is about 300 K.M. - 1 hour by plane,3 hours by Coach, and less than 2 hours by Train.

Per the States, the distance between New York and California (Los Angeles) is about 5,000.00 K.M., 6 hours by air and 3 hours behind New York. And Texas, which is couple of hundred Kilo meters shy of being the same size as Nigeria, is 3 hours behind New York. So stop your unnecessary false comparism and focus your attention on things that matter - the instability in Nigeria, if you can
