Iyanya: Explains Why Artistes Need To Make A Lot Of Money To Stay Relevant

Kukere crooner Iyanya explains to Encomium Magazine on why superstars have to live up to everyone’s expectations.

Read Excerpts from the interview;

On Creating hit songs and finding it hard to maintain Iyanya says:

“Music is very expensive. Most of them make money and it’s hard to put
it back the same thing. Your next money is not guaranteed because there are
lots of artistes. If you say you wouldn’t do show A, they can take artiste B for
that show. It doesn’t mean that because you have a hit song, you would be
performing at all shows. It doesn’t work like that. So, some of these guys, it’s
hard for them. It’s hard for them to follow up. Follow up is the hardest thing
to do. Many artistes make a hit but the money they make from that hit is not even
enough for them to support or sponsor the next video. So don’t blame them”.

On Making a lot of money to stay relevant Iyanya says:

“Yes. Let me give you an instance. I had a show here in Lagos, I was in Dubai.
They made a mistake and booked my flight for Monday and the show was on Sunday.
We rushed to the airport, they said no that my ticket was for the next day.
After much pleading and explaining that I had a show that night in Lagos, they said
alright.I could board but not business class since it wasn’t my flight. I had to fly
economy class with my business class ticket. Sitting down there, people around
where staring at me like what am I doing here. A woman even walked up to me
and said “Iyanya, you no suppose dey here now, na the other side you suppose dey”.
What came to my mind next was that I can’t just decide to fly economy today, it will
become gist. I have to work hard, I have to make money, to live up to your expectations.
It’s not like am living my life for you but its the life I chose. So, I have to do it.”

have no monies coming in?

  3. ...its the life you choose...hmnnn...Issokay!
Being a celeb doesn't come cheap though cos people expect so much from you. Reasons why so many do under-G runs (drugs, runs, homosexuality), put a lid on it and then stand on top all saying all of the monies come from showbiz.

SDK to your question, the answer is "Na them sabi". They need to work harder. Cos that's the life they've chosen for themselves 60% of fakeness. When you build your foundation on living a fake life, you've got to complete it with same pattern, there's no two ways about it else you become irrelevant to yourself and the society. The higher your income, the higher your expenditure all things being equal.

  7. he has said the truth...you bloggers and journalist are one of the people who put pressure on them to remain on top and make money.......why on earth should the woman be asking him what he is doing in economy? our society is a problem, you make a million naira and they expect you to begin to live large without putting the basics on ground first.....life is in stages so celebrities who have no money coming in should live their lives according to what they can afford and not be presured to live large.....in this life you must pay your dues and grow through the ranks.....you see a celebrity entering bus or taxi and people like you will be the first to bring their news here and ask why they do not have a car....that is a true picture of what is totally wrong with nigeria

  8. Sounds like hes living his life for people to me cos at the end of the day na these same ppl flying business class and buying different cars for different day of the week go come begin beg all of us to donate money for heart transplant. Why cant ppl just be humble? The competition is just too much in that naija thats y u get people like that yoruba actress stealing from left right and centre. God help Nigerians..

  12. Fake life style no pay anybody, be yourselves instead of pretending to be who you are not. I wonder if this people have inner peace and do they even sleep well if all they do is try to impress people??

  13. No wonder some of you have to combine music with yahoo, yahoo plus, yahoo plus plus, and drugs just to stay relevant and please us. Eyah!!

  14. Stella that is an easy answer now. The female celebrities do runs now. How do you think all those so called female celebrities fund their flamboyant lifestyles flashing designer bags, shoes, exotic cars etc. they sleep around, both married and single

  15. First of all Enconium Magazine is a joke...same magazine that claimed to have interviewed wizkid in which he said, he had to replace his bashed porsche within two weeks, because he didn't have a car to move around, as he was now entering cabs*...lol..
Secondly..iyanya kinda has a point tho...one thing about keeping your celebrity status and brand strong, is your consistency and ability to always standout..frosh has to be distinguished from smellos..
Thirdly..my dearest aunty stella, when you are a celebrity and no money is coming in, that goes to say that there is a problem and its time to change your hustle. U.B

I have this weird dream yesterday night. I like Peter(di Lola) but I found myself in a "Pre-Coital Shenenigan" with Paul. As he was getting ready to drill for oil in my"Downstream Sector",I heard a whirring sound. I turned my head n what did I see? Someone attached a video camera on the window. So our tryst wud hv bn recorded n shared to all blogs. I vex and slapped Paul. Only for my hubby to shout,What is wrong? Why did u slap me?

  19. Poverty mentality at play…so because you are in showbiz you must always flaunt and live the high life?
no one is asking you to live beyond your means, you chose to do so because of you lot's overblown ego

look at Naeto C? without being told you will know the guy is of a different mindset and pedigree from these gutter snipes..check many western celebs and you will see how effusive and laid back many of them are..
if you sit down in notting hill area--primrose-hampstead heath you can't wait for 45mins and not see some celebrity in their jeans and tee shirt with £60 trainers..

Russell howard the british comedian made £4million in just 2012 and he had a much better year in 2013 you will always see him in jeans and £50 tee shirt

continue making the money and spending it lavishly your eye go clear very soon when the hits dry up then we will see if you are still boarding the first class…..Olu maintain where is he today?

the likes of King sunny Ade and their set did not live live like this thats why they are still relevant and wealthy
