PRESIDENT JONATHAN SUSPENDS LAMIDO SANUSI AS CBN GOVERNOR

Having taken special notice of reports of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria and other investigating bodies, which indicate clearly that Mallam Sanusi Lamido  Sanusi’s tenure has been characterized by various acts of financial recklessness and misconduct which are inconsistent with the administration’s vision of a Central Bank propelled by the core values of focused economic management, prudence, transparency and financial discipline;

Being also deeply concerned about far-reaching irregularities  under Mallam Sanusi’s watch which have distracted the Central Bank away from the pursuit and achievement of its statutory mandate; and

Being determined to urgently re-position the Central Bank of Nigeria for greater efficiency, respect for due process and accountability, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has ordered the immediate suspension of Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi from the Office of Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

President Jonathan has further ordered that Mallam Sanusi should hand over to the most senior Deputy Governor of the CBN, Dr Sarah Alade who will serve as Acting Governor until the conclusion of on-going investigations into breaches of enabling laws, due process and mandate of  the CBN.

The President expects that as Acting Governor of the Central Bank, Dr. Alade will focus on the core mandate of the Bank and conduct its affairs with greater professionalism, prudence and propriety to restore domestic and international confidence in the country’s apex bank.

The Federal Government of Nigeria reassures all stakeholders in Nigeria’s financial and monetary system that this decision has been taken in absolute good faith, in the overall interest of the Nigerian economy and in accordance with our laws and due process.

  4. Finally they were able to get him off. I suspect that Petroleun Minister's hand in this matter. Since he kept on arguing his case on NNPC financial discrepancies, I knew something like this would happen to him. They have chosen a puppet that will toe their line now. When will Diezani's head hit the chopping board????

  5. Stella was 'gently' made to resign after a long stay of robbing the aviation sector in broad daylight, CBN was uprooted from his seat. Diezani and Okonjo-Iweala have both lost focus too if that's the case. Iweala will always sing how the dollar has reduced mwhile it is still soaring. I pity this country.

  6. GOOD! this is a good step towards a right direction. Let GEJ be man for once, Sanusi Lamido is the worst CBN governor Nigeria has ever had.Suspending him is not enough he should be duely investigated and prosecuted accordingly if found guilty he should face the wrath of the law. He is tribalistic.

  10. I just can't wait for 2015 to come for this drunk dictator to be voted outt of Aso Rock. Why suspend Sanusi? Sanusi has transformed the banking industry positively but just cos he has been exposing the fraud, embezzlement and missing billions of dollars in the federal account, this clueless drunkard has decided to suspend him. This country is a complete joke. Btw, I thought the president cannot single handedly suspend or sack the CBN Governor ? This clueless man just have to go, everything about him is sad news, he is a curse on Nigeria, a parasite and a disease.

  13. Conflict of interest!!! Sanusi went after the untouchable minister of petroleum(allison),was he expecting to be applauded by jonathan? Now sanusi it is your turn to be probed by jonathan!!!!!!!!! I wait to see how the drama unfold

  14. Sanusi's sack was long overdue. He has succeeded in destroying so many banks in nigeria and rendering so many bankers unemployed. Sanusi from all indication can't even manage a branch of a bank. How come unity bank of the north that couldn't recapitalise which he gave 40billion are still functioning whereas oceanic bank and some other more healthy banks were shut down??

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Name the healthy banks that were shut down. And you actually thought Oceanic bank was healthy as it was? Smh. Just thank your stars people were saved from the mess that would have happened if they were not checked on time. Sanusi might have his flaws, but he tried to make the banking sector what it is today. So many people were laid off cos new systems of technology were introduced and people are enjoying the facilities. When banks were charging 100.00 if you try to use your atm cards in other bank machines, he put a stop to it and so many others. Make we praise am for the good he did too not all cussing him out.

      Delete
    2. Can you honestly say that there is no significant improvements in the banking sector since he assumed office? Obviously not all his policies and reforms are really favorable to all but you can't just sit there and conclude that he destroyed so many bank. All banks in Nigeria right now are in very good financial position. A place where banks cannot fold and customers will end up loosing their money. Is that not enough? Your mention of Unity bank (bank in the north according to you) in comparism to Oceanic bank just shows where your sentiments dwells.

  20. This is a step in the right direction. The suspension came too late. As a president of this great nation, you don't allow things to get out of hand before taking decisive action. All the same kudos to GEJ even though the suspension is long overdue. This so called Sanusi has been a black sheep in this administration. Well done my president.

  23. I read one of the best comments ever on this suspension. It is by the one and only BONARIO.
Posterity will never be fair on this administration
I find it laughable the grounds on which they found Sanusi guilty, doesn't it make mockery of our fight against corruption when found we it easy to relieve a man who raised an alarm over the impunity going on in the NNPC of his duties, while it took the protest and clamour of almost every Nigerian for the president to reluctantly late Oduah go.
Am not even talking of the likes of Aruma Oteh and Deziani.
Oh! Poor Lamido Sanusi,I know what gave you away,it was your conscience, yes your conscience because if you were able to subdue the persistent shout of your conscience and tow the path of presidential rotweilers like Labaran maku and Nyesom Woke, whose efforts were rewarded with an additional portfolios of supervising ministers, you wouldn't ended up being suspended. And even at retirement you might be sent to another FG establishment as compensation.
You choose to expose corruption, but who told you such works in Nigeria. Haven't you heard of cases where people were sent to jail for reporting a crime to the police?
Haba! I heard you're a highly principled man and very religious too,but u forgot this is Nigeria and a GEJ administration, where financial corruption is only a term relative to internet frauds by young boys and petty financial crimes.
    Now that Sanusi is gone,
Who will then keep Nigerians abreast of all NNPC financial misconducts?
Who will then tell the common man what actually happened to the purported Kerosene subsidy fund?
Who will then look the GMD of NNPC straight in the eye and tell him "you goofed sir" ?
Who will tell us the actual condition of the economy when Okonjo Iweala will be confusing us with figures.
We will surely miss you Mallam.

    1. We will surely miss him. But hope is not lost. Let him come out and run for President. Those of us genuinely tired of watching our country being ripped will vote for him. We need to put aside all tribalistic and religious sentiments aside and push our country forward. I tire.

    2. Yea...Best Comment!

In Nigeria, this is the reward of credibility. Many gullible Nigerians are even applauding the presidency for this act. It's a pity that we have been reduced to the minimal low by either religious, ethnic, or regional sentiments. Can Nigerians ever leave sentiments aside and go with the truth? I have actually asked myself these questions. Why did the President wait this long to suspend him? Is he just realising his shortcomings? For he heaven's sake the man is due to retire in a few months time. What is the presidency scared of? Why must it be now that Nigerians are beginning to take his questions and revelations serious? Nigerians wake up and smell the odour of corruption. It's in the air!

    4. Jonathan and the country Nigeria are jokes. How can a president suspend a whistle blower of corruption, fraud and embezzlement? Is that now a crime? Nigerians wake up from slumber before Jonathan sells the whole country, vote this heartless, clueless dictator of a man out in 2015.

  25. He's a thorn in Jonathan's flesh. That $20b has been siphoned for bribing and rigging the elections next year. Sanusi knows this but can't hit the nail on the head. That's why he's blowing his whistle really loud. The world is laughing, whistleblowers are rewarded for their courage. In Nigeria, they are punished.
