Nigerians Spend Millions On London Property-But WHERE? By Ruonah Meyer.

My London based sister and friend Ruonah Agbroko - Meyer decided to do an investigative interview of rich Nigerian buying houses in London and she did a marvellous 'legedes Benz' interview...and spiced it up with 'we waffy' pidgin..

Check it out................*Catch the Kisses for a job well done Ronny!

''Wealthy Nigerians spent over $390 million on property in London over the last 3 years according to new research. They are the biggest spenders out of the whole Africa - who, as a continent, spent over $938 million.

"The most expensive property we've ever sold to a Nigerian is actually a transaction we're in the middle of working on at the moment," says Camilla Dell, from Black Brick Property Solutions. "It's a property in the region of £50million (or $78million)."

While buyers from Africa account for only 1.5% of transactions in the "ultra-prime" London property market, they make up 5% of sales by value - which is up from 2%. And this is by spending between £15million and £25million on each home.

"I would like to buy in Mayfair," says one Nigerian lady. "But unfortunately, I cannot afford to live there."

The most sought after areas for Nigerians, in particular, in London are around Knightsbridge, Mayfair and Belgravia. Buyers include Africa's richest man - Aliko Dangote, a Nigerian businessman who has an estimated fortune of £16billion.

And the world's richest woman - Folorunsho Alakija, is an oil tycoon, fashion designer and philanthropist based in Lagos, but is also a big investor in the London. She recently bought four apartments in One Hyde Park, the super-exclusive development in Knightsbridge.

"They're running banks, oil and gas companies, telecomms companies and over the last ten or fifteen years have made a lot of money," explains Camilla Dell.

But many Nigerians are suspicious of such large amounts of money being spent on such lavish property, outside of Nigeria.

"You have to ask - where do they get the money from? Was it stolen money, because if you steal money from government or wherever - you want to live big," says one man.

"Those places are for big, even bigger girls!" laughs one lady who cannot afford such property in London.

  3. My take and here I go. If the Nigerian Govt took care of Nigeria, then this would be nothing to be angry about. But when millions are starving in Nigeria and a few are buying all these structures that Philipinos live in on behalf of the owners during the winter, then shame on the owners who clearer have looted or are spending Ill gotten wealth. This is no news, it's always been like this.

  12. Is there space for me to rant on this post? I hoped to give you guys the good news that I've finally resumed today at my new work place in Wuse 2, Abuja, after I finally got a place to stay - a cousin of mine's place in Kubwa. It was my last option not only coz of the distance, which translates to more expenditure but he just recently got married & travels a lit. Don't get me wrong, he's married to a very good and decent woman; I've known her even long before they got married. Thanks to all the BVs who gave me words of encouragement & wished me well, God bless you. But I lost the job. *sighs* I'm sitting here under a cool shade trying hard not to cry & thinking of my next line of action. Suicide isn't one. Lol. After I sought and got permission to resume on Monday, today, at my new work place, I left for Abuja from Zaria yesterday with high hopes! Don't know if I'm still full of high hopes anymore. Imagine my shock when I got to the gate, the security man there stopped me (that's the practice. You can't just waltz in as there is a list of expected staff). I confidently told him my name, He checked, double checked, looked up at me and said, 'your name isn't here'. I said, 'let me see' & he handed it over to me. True to his words, my names was conspicuously missing. I was still confident since I knew how 'badly' they needed my services. How did I know? I was scheduled for a second interview but couldn't make it as I'd another interview with a much more better company (name withheld) on same day, same time but this one was in Kaduna. I replied the mail requesting my presence for a second interview in the Abuja org thanking them for the invitation & giving tangible reasons why I won't be able to make it. I forgot about them. Two days later, they asked me if I was still interested in the job as my CV indicated I was the person they needed for that particular position. I thanked them & indicated my interest. I was asked to report the next day, which I did. (I'd to edit some details due to xter limitation) After waiting outside the gate for some 40mins or there about, in that time, I'd already called and texted my direct supervisor, who said he was on his way. Again, my hopes were boosted. It'd to be a mistake that my name wasn't on the list. I didn't know he was actually coming to tell me face to face that 'I forgot we actually had an agreement. I recommended your name to the boss and others that I need your services but he didn't take all of you. I'm sorry. It wasn't until he called me that you were outside the gate that I remembered you were coming to resume today'. Did I hear right, or did the sun fry my brains out so much that I'm hallucinating? How I managed to remain composed, told him it was no problem and took my bag as I made to leave, is still a mystery. As I walked away, tears dropped down my eyes. They're dropping now as I type this.... *pause* where do I go from here? what do I say to my parents, who were so full of gratitude to God & said lots of prayers of thanksgiving for this breakthrough? I feel a but relieved coz I didn't 'announce' to the whole world that I'd just been offered a job. I specifically told my parents and close confidantes to keep the news hush until after I've settled in & I'm sure the job is 'solid'. I'm sorry if I bored anyone with my long epistle, but I just had to RANT! It's the only thing I could think off. I feel so much better. Life goes on. God has bigger plans for me. Disappointments are just temporary reminders that I've a lot to be grateful for. Good morning world. Good morning dear BVs. I remain yours truly, Ayodele Daniel.

    3. Ehyaaaa. O ma se o. Sorry about it.

This direct supervisor asked you to resume without a feedback from his boss and without giving you an offer letter? Which agreement was he talking about? Was it written?

Anyway, it sounds cliche but things like this happen sometimes when a better deal is around the corner. I know because it's happened to me.

Keep your head up. Aluta continua.
