New FIRS Boss Deletes PhD Degree Fom Wikipedia

According to Punch ''Amid the controversies generated following revelations that the newly appointed head of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Babatunde Fowler, was brandishing a fake doctorate degree from a United Kingdom institution, Irish International University, the 59-year-old has since dropped the honourary degree from his Wikipedia entry.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday named Fowler as the new head of the FIRS, but hours after the announcement of his appointment, it emerged that his doctorate degree might have been fraudulently obtained.
Sahara Reporters, an online news platform, claimed in one of its stories that Fowler’s ‘Ph.D’ obtained from IIU in May 2007 was fake.

The former Lagos Internal Revenue Service boss, according to SR, “engaged in desperate efforts to erase the controversial title from the Internet especially on Wikipedia.” His biography has been edited on the website of the LIRS while the title of “Dr.” remains on his personal webpage. Seven years ago, a BBC investigation labelled IIU as a fake institution dishing out “substandard and worthless degrees” to individuals, especially influential politicians and business men from Africa.

The non-existent university is said to be linked to Baron Knowth, a chartered accountant whose real name was discovered to be Jeffrey Wooller.

'Well even if the fake University report is true,I am sure he didnt know as well *winks*.

I pray this doesnt cost him his new job.

    3. Stella, wasn't it a "Honorary" PhD? How was he to know the authenticity of the school? If the truth about the school is now published and he is embarassed, shouldn't he dissociate himself from the school? He should release a press statement.

    4. Choi see gobe. Why would anyone claim a title/degree that can be cross examined for Christ' sake? This is embarrassing in the least.

The one that irks me is that of our politicians. In Nigeria, all u need is a secondary school certificate to be able to run for any political office.. so I don't know why some still fake masters degree or university degrees to hype their CVS. Although I think that the academic requirements to run for office should be higher, and hence, amended in our constitution. Secondary school certificate is damn too low a requirement if u asked me.

On the other hand, goes to show that what is needed to be a leader is experience and common sense, and not necessarily your academic achievements.

Mr Fowler, I hope that for your sake this is a blunder by the said institution.

  14. It should be investgated and if it is discovered that he knew, he should be sacked. One of the problems we have in this country is the fact that we love titles so much just to appear bigger and better than what we are.

  15. This Stella you definitely need to get your brain out of your anus, cos you comments sometimes make me look at you some kinda way. "You are sure he didn't know as well" now how are you sure? I guess the word you were looking for here was "guess". Again, the report says he has erased Dr from his Wikipedia page, and the question is why is he panicking? If he's sure he earned his award, it's not his business whether the school is fake or not. The bottom line is that the school existed in the UK, that job is for UK education commission to sort out.

  31. When I say that our generation is the way it is because our fathers are morally bankrupt and so did not raise us up well as they lack integrity, they call me names. Just yesterday someone echoed to me what has become a universal saying ...money is everything and money answereth all things, yet this statement has made everyone to do just anything to get money. This is perverse and the perverted in our country gets all the money. Far back in 1985, I caught a boy cheating (copying from a textbook) in that year's waec exam. When I collected all the evidence and waschsnding him over to the police, his father appead from nowhere to beg on his son's behalf. Do you know what? To identify himself, he brandished an I'd card bearing dr so and so, a lecturer in the nearby university. As we speak today, one of my kinsmen who happens to be a pastor in the fastest growing church in Nigeria bears a name having no relationship with him real name. Woe betide you if you go to visit him in his workplace and call him his real name which nobody in his company knows him with, he always tells ppl who want to c him in his office the name to call at the security post. These are the ppl that train the leaders of tomorrow
