IPOB Burns Down Police Station In Ariaria Market

The city of Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State was on fire today as unidentified persons in the early hours of today attacked the Ariaria Police Divisional Headquarters and burnt it.

Most markets in the city and other businesses have been closed and people stayed in their homes as youth unrest spread round the city like wild fire following rumours that went viral in the wee hours of today that soldiers burnt houses and killed some residents of Umuode near Aba and its environs.

Information about the attack as at the time of filing the report was sketchy, although sources said that there was no casualty. It was gathered that following the attack, security has been beefed up at the Aba Area Command Headquarters and other Police Divisions in the commercial city.

The Area Command headquarters was cordoned off and vehicles were not allowed to enter the adjourning roads.

*This is really getting out of hand and is likely to spread .
Now can I ask those who know the Constitution very well or the law..

At what point does a President declare a state of Emergency in a Country?

"Declare state of emergency in a country" because a fraction of 1 state in a country that has 36 states has unrest?

The irate youths in Aba are actually foolish. You complain of marginalization and underdevelopment in the region yet the few structures you have, you would gladly burn down in a bid to prove a 'point'?
Like I posted on a group yesterday, they should hold their leaders and representatives past and present accountable for the underdevelopment in their region. If they succeed in getting their republic would they adopt the Monarchy system of government by installing Kanu or is it the same bunch of rogue politicians that would be at the helm of Government?

The issues they have goes beyond what they are agitating for.

It won't spread because these people started it and the silence of Igbo elites sitting on the fence instead of condemning Kanu worsened the situation. However the federal government will nip it in the bud in Abia. One small rat wants to disturb the peace of a country like Nigeria

Anonymous said...

No need for state of emergency. Kanu needs to be rearrested so he can stop inciting so much hate... That's all

Anonymous said...

Stella your bias is too much. I read your post and I didn't see where you mentioned that it was IPOB that burnt down the police station but you put it in your top heading you're a terrible human being choke off your hate and die. If you like don't post my comment, doesn't make any difference to me.

Every leader in this country has its own wahala that comes with it

ThatYorubaChic#wifenotcook said...

Shebi you want biafra? Enjoy it

Anonymous said...

That's how Kanu wanted to carry his wahala to lagos. Remember Lagosians shouted out straight away that he is not welcome at all. Even Igbos in Lagos shouted over the roof tops that he was not welcome in Lagos. He should keep his wahala in abia

Under section 305 of the 1999 constitution,Before a state of emergency can be declared, it must be evident that the country is in a state of war or is in imminent danger of invasion. And this must be made known in the Federal government gazette then the national assembly will hold a meeting to decide if there was need for declaration of state of emergency before it can be carried out.If the Federal government fails to go through this due process, Then it's not a declaration of state of emergency but adoption of stiffer measures so as to protect the lives and properties in the states

All I can do now is declare peace in our country.Got scared when I couldn't reach my dad earlier in the day.He told me that there was tension so he ran back to the house at about 10am and stayed indoors.

The sadness in his voice got me worried. To think I have fond memories of Aba while growing up.

May God grant our leaders wisdom to make the right decisions and keep our loved ones out there safe.

There is a misunderstanding somewhere as regard all these reports.

How about unarmed people being killed by the military? No media wants to report it. I weep for this sorry state of a country. You kill their people and expect an applaud Abi... More ripples will follow when you have a coward as president.

State of emergency is not even needed, federal government can curtail this with help of the men of the security.

Kanu will be picked up soon and he's going in there for a long time.

Hahahaha #burn it down!!!
They should also burn their shops and fathers houses!!! Mumus

Adadioramma said...

What happened to the ones declared in Borno state? Is that place really a police station or Ariaria warehouse? You mean police folded their hands and watch Ipob youth razed down their station? There is more to this.

Pipi Lee said...

False.
Saw the news not long ago, no clash, just scared igbo traders who started locking up their shops and running for their lives when they heard that igbos attacked hausas down east, so in fear of a reprisal attack, they started fleeing.

Anonymous said...

I believe the reason why the igbo leaders are silent is because they are scared! They are on the fence now! If they support Kanu, the govt will believe they are part of the agitators and if they support the govt openly and kanu gets killed, all their properties will be destroyed, even their lives taken in the process! Forgive my typos please.

I saw a video of man's inhumanity to fellow man and I've been pissed each time I remember, which was virtually almost every time I needed to get a clip. I asked the person who sent the picture to me what the people being treated worse than animals did but she couldn't say cos even the person who codedly video it didn't say anything more than the general location where it was happening. Anyone who sees such treatment meted out wouldn't find it funny, especially when there was no violence. On the other hand, the people who burnt the police station are big idiots. It wasn't police officers that allegedly did that, so why not locate the nearest barracks to display your stupidity? That's a structure that could be useful if, for whatever reason, your cries for secession succeeds. Secondly, use legal means to send your response to that brutality and watch international bodies support your struggle. Violence is never the answer. You could have refrained and let the world question a society and government that would ignore herdmen killing at will and destroying farms without regard for anyone. I have no idea what the constitution says about declaration of a state of emergency in a state or country, but with this act of retaliation, the army and government have been given more excuse to do what they like. Meanwhile, Mr President isn't sending condolence messages or even saying anything at all as regards these happenings. #IstandforoneNigeria #violenceisnevertheanswer #holdyourelectedofficialsaccountable #saynotostupidity

You are absolutely right, I once said this too about what the system of government will be in Biafra . The elite will not a monarch system led by kanu,so another problem.

All these nonsese should stop.. Kanu stop confusing our youths...If this situation is not properly controlled and managed,it might result to another civil war. This is not what we need now considering the current economic recession we are facing... Enough is enough.
