Gov. Ortom Amidst Workers Strike Action, Admits His government Has Failed Its States'Workers

Benue governor Samuel Ortom admitted on Monday that his government had failed in its responsibility of paying workers salaries.

A worker deserves his wages, but the Benue government has not been able to fulfill that obligation. We have failed the workers in this regard,” Ortom said in Makurdi, after meeting with national leaders of organised labour.

He, however, said that factors responsible for the inability of the state government to pay salaries were beyond it. The committee will also work toward bringing down Benue’s high wage bill of N7.8 billion.

Mr. Ayuba Wabba, National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), who also spoke with newsmen after the meeting, said the state government had made offers toward addressing the industrial action embarked upon by the state workers. Wabba advised government to plug loopholes that had pushed up the state’s wage bill which he said was “too high”.

Wabba and Ortom, however, refused to disclose the offers made by the government.

  1. Ortom is a demon from hell, a self serving man, who doesn't have a heart. I have never seen one who tells so much lies and love propaganda you

  2. Good that he admitted he failed but this is not enough , he should do everything possible to increase their IGR to sustain the state not just what is from federal purse.

  3. God will disgrace all of them before the end of this year, our God is not asleep. Blood sucking government

  4. This man hasn't paid 11months salary! He's beyond failure.

  5. Even H*****ge bank are yet to pay us our alawi for d month of September, meanwhile other banks have paid.We complained to d bank and all we were told is that Nysc is yet to release cash to them. We were like there is no how cash will be released to other banks and your bank will be left aside, meaning they are probably trading with our alawi.
