The police have said that making phone calls at filling stations is a criminal offence which could land the offender in jail.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, stated that an offender could be prosecuted and jailed forattempted arson.
According to Punch,He noted that police officers have the authority to arrest anyone found making phone calls or smoking at filling stations.
He described the filling station as a public facility where motorists cannot act as they like onaccount of the inflammable products like petrol and other petroleum products beingdispensed there.
Moshood, therefore, cautioned the public against violating the safety rules forbidding smoking and phone calls at filling stations.
He said, “Making phone calls or smoking at filling stations is a criminal offence and the police, of course, could arrest anyone violating the safety rules put in place to safeguard life and property at the filling stations.”
Can they actually follow it up?
ReplyDeleteNor be police again?
Mtchewwwwwwwwwwwwwww!
Thank God and I hope they really follow it up.
DeleteWas in the filling station one day and was trying to stop one guy who was confidently making a call just by the pump, he just hissed and got into his car, I had to call the attendant to stop him, all these Hausa people that don't follow rules, I just told him if he wants to die he should go somewhere else and not involve innocent people
You are both wrong. Him for making the call and you for generalizing Hausa people.

Why not embark on proper public enlightenment campaign rather than threatening arrests? Methink people will be more disposed to doing the right thing if they understood the inherent danger(s) of doing otherwise.
ReplyDeleteWe all know Nigerians are naturally risk averse.
If only it will be enforced.Too many people lack basic phone etiquette.
ReplyDeleteNow if police sees someone making calls 100miles away from filling station they would arrest. Food is ready for them.
ReplyDeleteInfact you understand this country well enough.

ReplyDeleteMaking calls in a gas station is actually dangerous. We shouldn't wait for a penalty to inculcate this in us.
