Chronicle Of Blog Visitor Narrative

 Hmmm......

STAND ALONE NARRATIVE
DISADVANTAGES OF NOT HAVING NYSC CERTIFICATE

My brother ghosted his NYSC and he was caught, they now gave him eight months of extension without payment while they gave others they caught together three months extension, he has tried every means possible to make them reduce it to no avail, the LG that reduced the extension of others is saying there's nothing he can do about it.

He's saying he will just forfeit the certificate because he can't serve extra eight months even with payment, let alone without payment.

My questions are why did they give others three months and gave him eight months, does it mean others bribed them or what, what did others do that made them reduce their own punishment despite committing the same crime at the same period, and all of them always beg them together, lastly what are the disadvantages of not having NYSC certificate?

I'll be glad if this can be posted as chronicle because I need clarification and advice on this, honestly I'm not happy with this situation.

Hmmmmm your brother probably did not press the right buttons..Maybe those people forfeited monies to them......Or maybe your brother is the oficial scapegaot

  1. Or maybe your brother is not telling you the whole truth.

  2. Whatever he does,he should not forfeit it. If he can't redo it, he should just get an exemption certificate.

  3. the questions you asked here you should have done that with them because they understand what they did. Your brother might have said some words to them while pleading for mercy or he was too stubborn for such to happen to him. He should just endure for three months and go back to plead with them, is possible his attitude gave him the reason why they have refused to forgive him.

NYSC certificate is part of the requirement in this country for jobs but not a must. Nothing serious with it.

    1. Nothing serious with it?
It tripped a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria
One or two Governors had plenty explanations to make over it before and after the last general elections in Nigeria
Don't Ministries and Parastatals ask for it from employment seekers
Can the Government of Nigeria be stopped from making it serious tomorrow as a condition precedent to any benefit or privilege from the Government?
Hope Poster's brother is also not one of the people lampooning Nigeria? A country he would not even give 12 months of his time to.

      Well, levels are different.
It may not be serious for some people.
But is Poster's brother one of such persons?

  4. Dear Poster,

Obviously money changed hands in this case....The deed has been done however I will advise you don't take permanent decisions on temporal challenges....What makes us adults is to be mature enough to bear the consequences of their actions......

Your brother was given 8 months; why can't he serve out the 8 months extension and be honorably discharged at the end of day...Who knows maybe during serving his extension, he can appeal and it maybe cut short....This can be a learning curve for him because you cannot be certain of what lies ahead in life and what the outcomes are.....Not completing his service is a huge risk to embark on....

    Selah!

    All the best....

    1. Phoenix, don’t say obviously money changed hands like you very sure it did. I know there is high probability it happened but it may not. Her brother may not have told her true or full story of what happened, secondly, like someone up there rightly mentioned, attitude also matters, may be during the whole case his attitude angered them, may be he went about saying the same thing she said that he said. ‘He cannot 'serve extra 8 months even with pay, he would rather forfeit the cert’ believe me there is nobody that is trying him that he would approach with such attitude that won’t hand him the maximum punishment, cos i believe he got the max sentence while his colleagues got the minimum. She should sha find out well.

  5. It might be their approach that reduced their punishment. It's important how you speak with people. We can both say sorry but it doesn't mean the same to the recipient.
As per NYSC certificate. I think it's a requisite for political appointments especially if you wish to present your university education as part of your qualification.
Another is that it's a strong prerequisite for government employment.

  6. Tell him to close eye and do it
8 months seems like long time to a youngin but take it from a grown woman time will go by and this will be one of the stories he tells people and laughs in the future

  7. Let him do the it. Some companies and government agencies do require it.

  8. NYSC is useless unless you want to go into politics or work in Nigeria. If you want to live abroad, do not waste the time. A whole 8 months. He can use it for masters now.

My NYSC certification hasn’t been useful to me for over 27 years.

  9. Tomorrow now they will be saying Nigeria is a lawless and useless country, common NYSC of one year your brother is not patient enough to obtain it. Assuming he had his way now ,and opportunity beckons on him tomorrow he will be scratching his head. Tell your brother to go and do the needful instead of looking for ways to boycott official arrangements.

  10. I stand to be corrected but I think the NYSC discharge certificate or certificate of exemption is mandatory if you want to take up a job with the civil service in Nigeria and to hold any political office. Your brother should not only think about the present but the future. I hope he is not planning to run for any political office in future because even the extension may be used against him by political opponents to tarnish his image. But this is the Era of japa so it may mean nothing to him. Please let him swallow his stubbornness and go and complete the extension. I think that's what I will advice my own brother if he were in such situation.

  12. Your brother may have reasons that seem logical to him now, but in the future he may come to regret in. For one, nobody know how high they will rise in life, it is best to build a clean foundation so that if someone tries to dig up dirt they find nothing. The eight months he forfeit today may mean 10 million tomorrow. Have we not seen this happened to many ppl in the past already? This act can even be used to build a character profile of him if he ever finds himself in a dispute in the courts, what if it made the difference between freedom and imprisonment. As the poster above said, he should tread carefully cause he does not know the future.
