Nigerian Government Orders Closure Of All Public Schools And Offices In Abuja For World Economic Forum.

A statement by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Pius Anyim, stated that the directive is to ensure free flow of traffic in the city centre.
The Federal Government has ordered the closure of all government offices and schools in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, during the period of the World Economic Forum, WEF.
The WEF on Africa is scheduled to hold from May 7 to 9.

A statement by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Pius Anyim, stated that the directive is to ensure free flow of traffic in the city centre.
“This is to inform the general public that the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck  Jonathan, GCFR, has approved, as part of arrangements for the successful hosting of the World Economic Forum Africa, that all Government Offices and Schools in the Federal Capital Territory, expect those on essential services, are to be closed from Wednesday, 7th to Friday, 9th May, 2014.  Private Organisations with large number of staff may also wish to close down.”
Observers, however, believe the closure is due to the security concerns in the Nigerian capital following two bomb explosions in three weeks, killing scores of people.culled

*Shouldnt they have cancelled the event instead?

  4. If u asked me, it makes no sense to disrupt school activities for this purpose. Education and the livelihood of pple will be interrupted for 3-4days on what basis?? C'omon now there are far better ways to go about this. They do not need this jamboree to deliberate on any issue that should be done quietly behind closed doors with utmost intelligence and secrecy. How many times has Obama closed schools in D.C or asked workers to stay home because they want to strategies against terrorism that is even world class issues in America? The noise this administration is making far exceeds their actions and inactions. Now they have set up another committee to find Chibok girls? My problem is with the word 'committee'. Are they military personnel or a bunch of pot bellied civilians who'll be paid for seating in air conditioned rooms to argue and slap themselves?? Who does this? They should better do what they need to do without attracting undue attention from BH again. I suspect that the bombing yesterday was to make a mockery of the presidency because of their media bluffs that hold no water. If u ask these kids not to go to school or their parents to work, what if they strike a shopping center where u can't ask pple not to go and play? Except there's a gademn state of emergency officially declared, which will have the whole state or the affected areas put on indefinite lock down...I suggest that they stay in aso rock and do thier meeting or whatever without involving anyone. 3. This is another proof that GEJ is clueless. I read it somewhere that the school were shut to ease the flow of traffic. How dumb? Can he just stop making a fool of himself for once, just once. Security has nothing to do with shutting down of government offices and school. Do we even have surveillance helicopters in this country? GEJ is sorrounded with bad advisers. They keep flaunting his weaknesses.

  6. My earlier comment was misdirected in part. Was multi tasking my brain I don tire. As per me saying the purpose of the lock down was to discuss security issues in naija...as opposed to the world economic forum Africa. However I maintain that the lock down is not commendable. Like Stella said they should have cancelled it and the world would understand. If BH wan disgrace una they'll still do so even if schools are locked down. Misplaced priority. Mshew

  12. LMAO.

Just when you think you've heard it all from Nigerian government.

Closing schools for WEF? Is that how the participating countries close their schools for a conference that won't add any value to the lives of the citizenry?

It's now obvious that block heads are controlling Nigeria. Imagine their priority. There are several ways to control flow of traffic so as not to impact on their yeye forum. Why don't they just declare a total curfew and arrest those that venture out of their homes?

  16. That is the same question I'm asking, why shut down everything because of a forum that won't add anything to the economy, they just want to boast their smelling ego. so this is how we will keep running away like chicken from our problem.

  17. Cancel the event?
For how long are we going to keep cancelling events?
Soon weddings will be cancelled as well
    Is Nigeria Under Siege?

  18. No Stella. We can't keep canceling forums and summits. Its like saying they should stop the National Conference already going on. The country cannot be at a standstill thereby indulging these terrorists. The best they can do is close schools in Abuja. Two days outta school will not make the kids turn to isi akis. Again, we cannot paralyze our economy just cos of these hooligans. .

  24. Stella and her market women keep mute. Why the forum be cancelled? Nigeria should not move forward because 2 bombs went off in abuja, which is almost like a daily occurrence in borno? Closing schools and offices for two days won't hurt anyone besides, we need to tackle our economic problems as well as the security issue. The ignorant fellow, above that compared Nigeria with the US. The govt has the right to close schools, train stations and ask people to stay at home. It happened during the Boston bombings. We should learn to support not criticising every move the government tries to make.

    1. Hey you!!! Please for the love of God,i beg you don't even think of going down that road with us here,We are not HAPPY already!! Don't come on here and decide to insult people you might never meet in this your life!

I am not even going to start telling you we are not market women here cos that will be degrading to the actual women that sell in our markets to make ends meet and of course giving YOU some credit!

That said, yes the government reserves the right to tell people to stay home cos of perceived insecurities in the nation..And trust me guys, its not because of traffic, areas will be cordoned off cos of the activities of this wicked sect...so at the end of the day, anyone driving in and around abuja will be frustrated..

I don't think it's wrong for people to stay home especially on days like that...To avoid stories that touch at check points biko!

When u have a role model, wouldn't u aspire to be like them? Yea right the Boston shooting being one out of several others. And ur point is? Just get the hell out anonymous 8:55 am.

  25. The can't cancel it.. Its world economic forum. But I still don't see the sense of it at all. After everything, who would want to invest in an economy that the country is suffering from serious security issues... Every investor wants their investments to be safe and with all these bombing, one can't tell .... I hope BH won't plan anything stupid that day..

  30. Stella, from the look of things, it seems as if the bombings are targeted at frightening the WEF participants. The belief is that The Jonathan Administration will be forced to cancel it thus giving him a bloody nose. Remember that some people promised to make the place ungovernable? It is the manifestation of what we are seeing...
