The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) has, for the first time, appointed a woman as its president.
Nigeria’s Minister of Petroleum Resources, Ms. Diezani Alison-Madueke, was elected at the 166th General Meeting of the organization yesterday(Thursday) in Vienna, Austria.
Alison-Madueke, who has been OPEC’s Alternative President since January 1st, will serve a 12-month term as President of OPEC, replacing Libyan Deputy Prime Minister for Corporations Abdourhman Atahar Al-Ahirish.
