Monday Morning News - A Must Read!

Good morning! Here are  things you need to know this morning according to dailypost.

-Few days after clinching the ticket to represent the All Progressives Congress (APC), at the 2015 general election, former Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.) has visited his opponent at the just concluded primaries of the party,
Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.Buhari floored Atiku and three other contenders to pick the keenly contested presidential ticket of the party last week in Lagos.
DailyPost reports that the Turakin Adamawa took to his Twitter page to congratulate Buhari even while the counting was still ongoing.

-Nigerians would once again experience fuel scarcity as Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, and its Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, will as from today embark on an indefinite nationwide strike, in protest of governments failure to carry out Turn Around Maintenance, TAM, of the nation’s refineries. They are also protesting government’s refusal to reduce pump prices of petroleum products even as global prices of crude oil has fallen. Delay in the passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill, PIB as well as non-implementation of the Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry Content Development, NOGICD were equally part of the reasons for the strike.

- A 32 year-old Sani Saidu from Gombe State is currently in the custody of the Lagos state Criminal Investigations Department, SCID, Yaba , Lagos, over an of alleged murder of his master. Saidu allegedly murdered his master, a truck driver because he wanted to divert the petroleum tanker he was driving. He confessed that he murdered his boss because he needed N150,000.

- There is an ongoing crisis at the Lagos State University, LASU, as the general congress of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, of the institution, weekend, suspended its Exco members led by Mr. Adekunle Idris over poor leadership style.

-. Human rights activist, Mr Femi Falana SAN, has petitioned the United States-based Coca-Cola Company, for failing to respect international standards in its manufacturing process and for also refusing to allow its products to be inspected by the Consumer Protection Council of Nigeria, CPC.

- Even though the Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, has said that the owner of the gas facility that exploded in Akure, the state capital, has no approval to operate in the area, he has promised that his government will compensate victims of the explosion and as well pay their medical bills. He made the promise at the Truama Centre in Ondo where some of the victims were receiving treatment.

-The Force Headquarters on Sunday insisted that before security details can be restored around Tambual, he should apply to the police. The Force Public Relations Officer, Mr. Emmanuel Ojukwu said police can only approve Tambuwal’s request as a governorship candidate and not as Speaker of the House of Representatives.

-. Former Niger Delta Militant, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo has denied the ongoing media reports that he has acquired six warships for the protection of the waterways. Speaking through his spokesman, Comrade Paul Bebenimibo, Tompolo said there was no element of truth in the rumour as the gunboats had been in the care of NIMASA for over two years and not under his care.

-The Peoples Democratic Party has accused the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj. Gen Muhammadu Buhari, for allowing an alleged cabal controlled by a former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Tinubu to choose his running mate for him. This was contained in a statement the party issued on Sunday.

- The All Progressives Congress on Sunday said the party was yet to settle for Buhari’s running mate. The APC, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed, said the Nigerians should ignore all the predictions on Buhari’s running mate, saying that the selection would be highly democratic. The party requested for prayers as it makes to choose a running mate for its presidential candidate.

- The Edo state governor, Adams Oshiomhole has asked Nigerians to vote out PDP in the 2015 election since the party has clearly failed the nation in its 16 years in power. The Governor was speaking at the 22nd convocation ceremony and the 50th anniversary of the Auchi Polytechnic.

  38. NUPENG strike... Can't wrap my head around the reason as provided by their national president... Comrade Achese Igwe.
It's a zonal strike in protest of sack of the zonal secretary of PENGASSAN.

    My confusion is
-why would nupeng carry the cross of another union?
    - and why isn't it amenable to dialogue? Esp in this yuletide when there would be mass movt! Why hold the nation to ransom for this?
    - why is it a zonal strike. Be informed that this strike is affecting Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Enugu, Anambra, Benue, Imo Cross Rivers and Ebonyi.
you say it's a strike due to sack of a National Sec, why not embark on a National strike???

All these use and abuse of power stinks.

  46. All other news no even concern me, except the oil and gas workers strike. GEJ and his people should better look into it because I don't want to start searching for fuel up and down. As if the fact we produce oil but still have to pay through the nose to buy it is not enough,we will still suffer for scarcity.
