Nigeria goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama is set to win his 100th international cap in the Nigeria-Bolivia match on Thursday 26 March.
A cap is an award given to a soccer player who represents his country in international matches.
However, such major century landmark, which is a huge achievement in his career wouldn't have happened anytime soon due to an error that was earlier made where the number of his caps were erroneously put at 98 games instead of 99 games by the international body.
But to his favor, a Nigerian professor of Communications at Howard University, Washington DC, USA, Uche Onwumechili; who is an avid football record keeper mailed that one match in which Enyeama featured, but which was missing in the matches credited to him, to the concerned body.
The particular match making a whole difference was the May 18, 2002 friendly tie with Jamaica at Loftus Road, London in which Enyeama came in place of Ike Shorunmu as a second half substitute. Nigeria won the match 1-0.
It was Enyeama’s second match for Nigeria. That effectively put his total at 99 and the number of times he played as substitute is now eight, not seven as earlier published.
To this effect, the 32-year-old football star has expressed his appreciation to God and to his fans on his social media page this yesterday evening.
What An Achievement, Kongratulobia ENYAMA SAVINGS...
