Policeman Who Killed Chinedu Uzor Has Been Arrested.

Remember the story that broke on THIS BLOG about a policeman shooting an unarmed citizen Chinedu Ozor and how his head was blown open by the Policeman's single shot?Well Punch Newspapers dug into the story and i can confirm to you that the Policeman has been arrested.

Read Punch Culled Report....

''Some policemen allegedly shot dead an engineer, Chinedu Uzor, during an altercation at a checkpoint in Sperando Junction, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the leader of the police team, Inspector Agbo Onwe, had been arrested and detained at the command headquarters, Abakaliki.

Our correspondent gathered that on Sunday, July 19, Uzor, a mechanical engineer, was returning from a club with a friend, whose name had yet to be identified, when they got to a checkpoint at the Presco area.

It was learnt that 33-year-old Uzor reportedly zoomed past the policemen but stopped at another checkpoint at Sperando Junction.
It was learnt that the policemen at Presco, however, came after him to Sperando and shot him in the head and chest. A witness was said to have contacted the family, after which he rushed the engineer to a nearby hospital where he died.

Speaking with PUNCH Metro, Uzor’s wife, Nkiruka, said she was expecting her husband on Sunday when she was called on the telephone that he had been shot and hospitalised.

She said, “They were two in the vehicle. They were returning from a social club in the area. It was not his first time of going. His custom was to drop his friends, who were not mobile, to their respective houses.
“On that Sunday, I called his phone, but he did not pick. I called another person who was at the meeting; he said they just dispersed. It was not up to an hour that a man called me from a hospital and asked whether I knew a man, Chinedu. I replied that he was my husband.

“He said my number was his last call, and he was now in the hospital. So, I went there. But he was injured badly, and minutes later, he died. I want justice on this matter. I am a university student. He has aged parents that he cared for. We do not have any child yet.”

An eyewitness said Uzor’s head was blown open by the bullets and his brain tissues spilled out.
He said, “The man was driving back home, and he saw those men dressed in mufti flagging him to stop. For fear that they might be robbers, he did not stop. When he got to another checkpoint where uniformed policemen were, he felt safe to stop.
“While he was explaining himself to the officers, the guys in mufti from Presco arrived and shot him on his head at close range. He was rushed to a specialist hospital where he died.”

The Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer, Anyanwu Chibuike, confirmed the arrest of Onwe, adding that the matter was being investigated at the State Department of Criminal Investigations.

He said, “The state command will not cover up any form of such action. There was a similar incident some time ago, and the policeman involved is now in prison. In this particular incident, the leader of the team is in detention.
“The bullets have been retrieved, and they are being subjected to ballistic forensic investigations. The case is being investigated at the SCID. It is unfortunate.”

Ballistic Forensic investigations my ass!!!
Chinedu Ozor is DEAD and we demand Justice for him.

NONSENSE!!!....If Policeman have started killing people what will armed robbers do?

    1. I was amazed when I saw a policeman's comment on the initial post saying the victim should have stopped when he was stopped by the uniformed men. I was almost robbed on that road when I was going to NYSC camp in 2010. So I don't know why someone who knows how risky that road can be will expect the man to stop. And to those that think Ebonyians are mean, I was in that state for a year. I met different people, stayed in Onueke and just like every other tribes, there are amazing ones, the annoying ones and the dubious ones. In all, the policemen involved should be sentenced to death by electrocution for man slaughter #justiceforchinedu #letspaintlagossdk

    4. The problem really is that the government deliberately made it difficult for humane humans to be in the police. Don't forget that the government that own the police use the police to silence their opponents hence they prefer crooked men and women in the police. Nothing is more honorable and godly than a profession that saves life. There are criminal accountants, lawyers, doctors construction engelineers etc but that doesn't make the professions bad. Each should be judged on their merits. There are hundreds of thousands of police men in Nigeria and each is someone's relation. I doubt if all the clove to a million policemen in Nigeria represent a million bad families. Again know that whatever has got to do with law is enemy of the people. A good human being who becomes a policeman would have simply arrested the young man and charged him for obstructing police duties or some other charges rather than commiting murder. I have in deed met very good God fearing policemen

They are allowed to come and sit with their former colleagues and gist. Eat normal. They only go in to where other prisoners stay at night or if there is an inspection!

Will he do the time for his crime?

Ballistic forensic investigation indeed. Here or abroad?

We know what the Nigerian police are capable of.
Next thing, we'll hear that it's a stray bullet from a 'missing ' gun, that killed the innocent man.

Abeg, the murderer should be made to face justice. The eyewitnesses are enough 'forensic investigation '.

  19. Armed robbers would roast people after killing them. Very few police people have sense. How can u just open fire on an unarmed civilian, y cldnt d policeman ask him questions as to why he took off like that rather than shooting him. When they see armed robbers now their guns will stop working. Justice for Mr chinedu Ozor!

  40. How can policemen be in mufti and expect someone to stop by that time of the day? Na craze dey worry all of them. After smoking pot, they don't know where to use the gun again. Let them be sent down to Borno and other parts of the north, where they can make meaningful use of their bullets. RIP Chinedu and may God comfort your wife and family.

  45. Nigerians must demand for the police that fit for purpose. Presently the Nigeria Police are not fit for purpose. In 2015 a police officer not in uniform murdered and executed a Nigerian was beyond imagination and incomprehensible. I urge the decent Nigerians to petition the Police watchdog ombudsman and Inspector General of Police for a thorough investigation and give account of what went wrong in this case to forestall unnecessary wasteful of innocent Nigerians in the hands of the police officers on the roads. It is time the Stakeholders and the Nigeria Government bring the Nigerian Police Service fit for purpose to avoid unnecessary more deaths on our roads. International Standards, code of conduct's, regulations, accountability, strict compliance are keywords that Nigerians must demand from the Nigerian Police Service that their taxes are been use to keep safe and secure but not to execute and murdered Nigerians that we witness on our roads.
