Some of them have brought in the tribalism/racial leg to renting houses now...
Are you living in a house where you are being troubled by the house owner?

Is your landlord/landlady unto your spouse? or child? Does this home owner do juju in the compound?
Did you finances drop after moving in? or did it get better?
Are you looing to move out because of strange things happening and you suspect the home owner?

Has your homeowner handed you a quit notice because you did not support a particular political party? A BV says quit notice was handed by the home owner to tenants who did not support a particular political party......WOW right?

  1. As a new immigrant, sometimes the LL won't rent to you. I stayed in a BnB for a year. One day, the owner just blocked me as I came in from work and asked if I'd like to buy it, a 2 BdRm house, with an attic. I said I'm still finding my feet, she said she feels she can leave her property with me, that I'm good with her stuff, plus she's retiring and moving interstate. It's my third year in the BnB which will be mine one day. With my kind of career, I'd finish paying in 4years. Maybe I'd still use it as a BnB.

  2. I was in desperate need for accommodation around October/November last year, selfcon precisely here in Abuja.
Agents show me shege, they know what I want and the area I want it but they would intentionally show me rubbish just to collect inspection fee.

Some houses I saw were overpriced and not even worth it at all. Some of the rooms were very tiny(I like space), looking like a makeshift closet, you'll find some that has no kitchen at all (I really need it), some had a shared toilet (I totally despise this) while some have their kitchen or toilet outside(like for real😰). And none of these houses were Any thing below 700k cos they are in town; some were even more than a million after you include the charges.
Finally, I found one I thought I could manage. The room was quite spacious so was the bathroom, the only challenge was that it was a shared kitchen but the landlord accepted when I requested that I would build my own kitchenette inside my room. The room was just so large and it cost 950k then 120k SC. I was hoping to manage it for a year before I look for something better, I was really desperate.

First time meeting the landlord for interview and payment and the first thing he said after I greeted him was that he doesn't like gen z. That was already a turnoff for me and I would walk out but "be patient and respect your elders" they say.
When I introduced myself, immediately he heard my name, he said "so you're ***(name called supporters of a certain presidential candidate ). I asked if that has to do with me taking the house, he answered in affirmation and said that I already failed 4 tests without even starting. First being that I'm still very young, mind you, I'm in my 30s but he said I increased my age cos he said that he doesn't like gen z, I look quite young tho. Secondly, he doesn't like giving his house to a particular tribe, thirdly, he said that the house seems too expensive for me and I should have a guardian even after I have provided my source of income for verification. And finally that I'm single at the age I claim I am. Nobody tell me to carry my two legs which were already becoming heavy out of shock out of that place.
In January, I got a call from his agent asking me if I still need the house and that they were offering me 750k and 60k SC, me that moved into a new house few days after that encounter. I simply told him that I've got a place already. My agent later told me that a guy moved in there and parked out in December and they were desperately looking for money for refund. Even if I haven't got a house, I won't still take that house. Heaven forbids

Ahh true true, agent no good. Very crookish human beings. You wiii ask for 1 bedroom they will carry you inside bush and be telling you it's fine. Comman finish gist o.😁

  4. My Landlord and his house has been a blessing, after our first horrible apartment we swore never to live in a house a landlord lives.

My landlord and his family lives abroad, comes home just once in two years. We are all prospering from promotions to fruitfulness to every good thing.During covid he sent his lawyer that we should all remove 50k each from the yearly rent to get foodstuff. Any tenant leaving is either moving to their house or travelling out.God bless you MR. O. Ijebu man with a difference. 🙏

  7. Stella my son got admitted into university in Kalmar, Sweden last year. We refused the accommodation university provided for new intake students because it was far away from the school and there was a clause in the agreement papers that said after 3 months my son must move out because of renovations work. So university accommodation was off our list. So we went online looking for private accommodation we found one already furnished self contained apartment with the rent cost of 3800kr with electricity and WiFi included in the rent. We paid a total of 11,400kr because the landlord insisted on collecting 2 months rent as deposit. So we had no option but to accept it as we were running out of time so he could move in before classes commence. So last September my son moved in to apartment we met the landlord on arriving the house he welcomed us and we chatted briefly. So I mentioned to my son that I was impressed with the house because it had an already inbuilt microwave oven and induction cooker and real oven so i said i was going to pay for 3 months in advance because i liked the house. The next thing the landlord called my son outside and increased the money straight from 3800 kr to 4200kr. I was so angry but did not say anything. My son now got another accommodation because during the winter this landlord cut off my son electricity and my son was sleeping with jackets on and thick blankets. I was mad we called the landlord he said it was a technical fault and fixed it. Now my son got a apartment for students with a trekking distance to school and notified the landlord 3 months ago by law. My son is moving out last week of March and this man is telling my son to pay for the month of April while he is still with our deposit money. This landlord is a Swedish man ooo. I sometimes think this landlord is an African man with attitude he is a greedy and cunning man. Telling my son that nobody has taken the house so how is it our business??? So my son should pay for the month of April after paying rent in a new place. I am going to meet him on Monday to put him in his place. For the fact that I am African doesn't make me a MUGU!

    1. Report to your kommune/municipal. There are regulations which landlords should adhere to when it comes to renting out spaces so people don't fall victims.

  8. My first Landlord I lived with in the same yard. Old & Linley very chatty but not much of a bother it’s his sons I disliked they liked to change goal posts about rules regarding a gate

Second Landlady kaii the woman to gossip and she kinds to listen to the community trouble maker any small report she go come blame!!! A neighbor even packed out because of her but me wey no get problem I was rarely spoken on. One positive side THEY NEVER INCREASE THEIR RENT. Always have sand price unkind landlord’s that’ll wake up and do so.

Current Landlord is a useless man oooo he never picks calls but will be online jail man is a case !!!! He “forgot” to inform us of borehole fee so we found out we had to pay “a little more” after moving in — all are nice houses but God abeg we pray to own our own

  11. My landlord, a Benue man, he is easy going. Tenants took undue advantage of his gentleness and started owing rent anyhow. Some will even leave the house whilst still owing. Sharp sharp, the man went to get a very wicked lawyer caretaker. The guy dey show us very hot pepper.

  12. I pray never ever to live in a house with landlord who lives in the same compound.
Old garrulous man forever gossiping, stingy as what I dont know. This sly old fool will be looking for how to get personal information to fan his dried ears. He and one gboromidalerun cotenant who is from his area, their favourite hobby is standing outside peoples windows speaking their language thinking people don't know...😁
Me I blocked him everywhere from the get go because my instinctsabout people dont lie, apart from greeting, I mean verbal greeting nothing concern me with me. I don't send greeting texts or call him.
My problem is when I don't like people I cant even pretend.

  13. An advice I learned in managing properties.

If you find a very nice apartment that is in the same compound with the landlord, make sure that the Landlord is rich. Most live abroad but the ones that don't will never come to your house for any reason.

If they have to talk to you, they do so through their lawyers. The exception would be if you're a good tenant then they would want to know you and your family if any.

Beware of retired and 'my children bought my house' landlords. The retired ones bought their house with their savings, those are the ones who randomly increase rent or give you unrealistic bills cos your rent is their only income and most of the time, his/her children are finding their feet as well so always broke.

The second one is the worst. From my experience, most grew up in abject poverty until their children lifted them up. That mentality still remains with them tho cos the apartments are never well-maintained and they tend to use cheap labor which makes things worse and they do everything themselves cos they don't want anyone to "cheat" them. Those ones will never give their tenants peace of mind.

Overall, before you get a house, and this is very important...pray about it. Because there are some houses and I kid you not...that the owners are diabolical. I had a tenant who lived in a house where the landlord didn't live in the compound and yet she was always broke despite the money she was making but the moment she moved to a compound the landlord was living in, EVERYTHING changed. The owners were a prayerful and rich family who treated her like one of them till she left Even the previous tenants were blessed in that apartment.

Finally, make sure there is an agreement is in place, read it before you sign cos there are some clauses that might be an issue while renting. If you're not sure, ask for advice from a lawyer before you sign.
