Court Orders Senate To Recall Senator Natasha Akpoti Citing Suspension Was Excessive..

Justice Binta Fatima Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja, on Friday, faulted the suspension of Kogi State Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and nullified it.

Justice Nyako subsequently ordered the Senate to recall the suspended senator on grounds that her suspension for six months violated the Constitution and also denied her constituents of adequate representation.

The judge made the order while delivering judgment in the suit filed by Akpoti-Uduaghan challenging her six months suspension by the Senate.

The Judge stated that while the National Assembly has powers to discipline any erring members, such discipline should not be too excessive to the extent of depriving her people of representation.
She explained that the six months suspension was excessive because it exceeded the 180 days the house is expected to sit.

    3. The Senate can appeal and ask for stay of execution. Before the appeal is heard, the six months are completed. The Judgment got bent when the court accepted the power to discipline and that there is no limit to the power, but did not nullify it as unconstitutional. All after that is, with due respect, judicial detour.

That's if Senator Akpabio's not exhausted from the whole procedure so far.
      Man was wrongly advised.

I still maintain they would have settled this behind closed doors.
He refused to listen to the many voices that echoed such.

      They've been family friends,remember?
Caution and apologies was sufficient as adjudged. Now see.
      It's so sad.

"Senate has the power to discipline, no limit stated for disciplining, but the sentence is too long, she should be recalled, but because you disobeyed my order, go pay N5m to government."

She is the one winning and being lampooned and ordered to pay money.
What does that say about her.
What is at play is obvious to discerning people like you.
She is being told to tread carefully.
While the men are being told what I do not want to repeat here to avoid accusation of gender bias.

Can she bring any evidence of X harassment in open court at this stage?
Hard core incontrovertible evidence showing paws in the bottle?
If she does, would her husband be able to continue in business in Nigeria?

The same burden to settle the matter quietly has been on her too.
Do you see her as a person who can be settled with quietly without she behaving like Reno Omokri who she allegedly settled with quietly?

And why did she go quiet at last?

The Senate will likely appeal and seek stay of execution to run out the penal period.
      She blundered big time too.

In check. If only those who see it as a gateway stop seeking to travel by that route.
