‎President Trump Adds $100,000 Fee For Skilled Worker Visa Applicants

US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order that will add a $100,000 fee for applicants to the H-1B visa programme for skilled foreign workers.
‎Trump's order mentions "abuse" of the programme and will restrict entry unless payment is made.

Critics have long argued that H-1Bs undercut the American workforce, while supporters - including billionaire Elon Musk - argue it allows the US to attract top talent from around the world.

‎In another order, Trump set up a new "gold card" to fast-track visas for certain immigrants in exchange for fees starting at £1m.

‎Trump's order is due to come into force on 21 September. It would only apply to new requests. The US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick originally said companies would have to pay the fee each year for six years.

‎"The company needs to decide... is the person valuable enough to have a $100,000-a-year payment to the government, or they should head home, and they should go hire an American," he said, adding: "All of the big companies are on board."
‎Later, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt went on social media to report that the $100,000 fee would be a one-time payment.

  1. He just doesn’t want any foreigner in his country. Hope it won’t backfire at the long run

  2. At a time when India and China are doing everything to attract top talent, America is turning them away. This is a brain-dead move.
The same H1-B visa Trump is accusing companies of abusing, is the same visa his wife Melania, lied to get. He is a vile hypocrite.

    1. Let him be, was he in power when Melania got the visa? Meanwhile the India and China attracting top talent are the ones that use the H1-B visa the most...let him protect American jobs and let American companies pay their citizens what they deserve instead of looking for cheap labour and outsourcing all the IT jobs cheaply! I wish UK will follow suit, because what is chicken change they pay their citizens?

Tech, science and Medicine is full in india they don’t need to attract anybody, leave attraction for US, Europe and the Arab world.

  4. Donald Trump!!! 🤦‍♀️
Thankfully, many of these orders can be rescinded by another president if need be. Doesn’t even matter if it’s a Republican or Democrat president.
