Nigerian Govt Bans Open Grazing In A Bid To End Farmers And Herders Conflicts

On Tuesday November 25, 2025  Nigerian government  officially banned open grazing nationwide, declaring it a capital offense, in a bid to end the long-running farmers–herders conflicts. Herders are now required to transition to ranching as the only acceptable method of livestock rearing.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Mukhtar Maiha, during the inauguration of the National Council on Livestock Development in Yola, Adamawa State.
