In July 2024, the state awarded Sujimoto a contract worth about ₦11.4 billion to build 22 Smart Green Schools across Enugu.
The government paid the company around ₦5.76 billion upfront, half the total cost to help speed up the work. The deal required the schools to be ready within six months but checks by state officials and EFCC teams in May 2025 showed no progress on the sites as most were stuck at the foundation stage or just starting block work.
The government said the company used poor methods, hired unskilled workers, and stopped showing up. They accused the firm's CEO, Olasijibomi Ogundele (known as Sujimoto), of taking the money and disappearing.
The state petitioned the EFCC, and EFCC froze related bank accounts, seized Ogundele's passport, declared him wanted for alleged diversion of funds and money laundering, and got a court order to hold him during the probe.
Ogundele said it was just a contract dispute caused by rising costs and low pricing, and he insisted he was not a thief. But the state stood firm, saying the work was substandard and the sites had to be handed over to other contractors to keep the project moving.
After months of investigation, the EFCC recovered ₦1.27 billion and handed it over to Enugu officials in a formal ceremony. Videos and photos from the event show EFCC representatives presenting cheques and documents to state government reps.
