The suit, marked FHC/B/CS/20/2026, details a disturbing account of events that Obaseki says occurred on December 28, 2025, while he was playing football in Benin City.
The affidavit details that armed men stormed the field, violently seized him, beat him, stripped him naked, and paraded him through several public streets for kilometres before taking him toward the vicinity of the Oba of Benin’s palace. Videos of the incident quickly spread across social media, and Obaseki says it caused severe emotional trauma, reputational damage, and long‑lasting psychological distress.
Represented by human‑rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN), Obaseki argues that the actions of the respondents amounted to a gross violation of his constitutional rights to life (Section 33), dignity of the human person (Section 34), personal liberty (Section 35), and privacy (Section 37) under the 1999 Constitution.

He is asking the court to declare the acts unlawful and unconstitutional, order a full‑scale investigation and prosecution of everyone involved ,including individuals identified as Kabaka/Kapuepue and Nomoless and compel the respondents to publish public apologies in national newspapers.
Obaseki is also demanding ₦500 million as compensation for the physical assault, emotional trauma, and reputational harm he says he suffered as a result of the incident.
