Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar Steps Down to Pursue 2027 Governorship Bid

Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has resigned from President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet effective Monday, March 30, 2026.

His resignation was confirmed by the ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, and follows the president’s directive that all political appointees intending to contest in the 2027 general elections must step down by March 31,2026.
Tuggar is widely expected to pursue the Bauchi State governorship race, and his exit clears the path for participation in party primaries.

He has served as Minister of Foreign Affairs since August 2023, after previously holding roles as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Germany from 2017 to 2023 and as a member of the House of Representatives.

  1. From one political appointment to another, they can never wake up and decide to retire and start travelling the world to relax and enjoy their wives and grand children.
