These guys use different aliases and when they want to succeed an extinguished leader's structure, they take up his name. It helps when they are winning but when their clique is overthrown, it hurts since your name stands you out to be taken out from the structure. It's how Shekau and those in his inner caucus were marked and extinguished by IS themselves. Those who "repented" knew to change their name to more IS friendly names to align with new management.
