President Bola Tinubu says his administration is laying the foundation for a new Nigeria that works for the common prosperity of all citizens. Tinubu made the remarks on Tuesday while inaugurating the construction of the two service carriageways of the Southern Parkway from Arterial Road S20 (Oladipo Diya Way) to Ring Road II, Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially transmitted the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (Alteration) State Police Bill, 2026, to the Senate, setting in motion what lawmakers describe as an epoch-making move to end decades of debate over decentralized policing in Nigeria. The initial bill was read for the first time during plenary on Tuesday.

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde yesterday slammed a 16-hour curfew in 10 local government areas of the state. A memo issued last night by Secretary to the State Government Prof. Musibau Babatunde stated that the curfew takes effect from today.

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have intercepted a truck conveying 8,000 military camouflage uniforms, 80 cartons of suspected illicit drugs and shoes allegedly bound for the South-East. The command said on Tuesday that the seizure was made by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit in an intelligence-led operation in Epe in the early hours of Saturday.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, has prohibited unauthorised social media activities by personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, warning that such actions could undermine the Force’s integrity, professionalism and public image. The directive, contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Iniedu.

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, is set to file a no-case submission in his alleged wiretapping trial, after the Department of State Services closed its case against him before the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday. The DSS is prosecuting El-Rufai on an amended five-count charge bordering on alleged unlawful interception of communications and breach of national security.

The Inspector-General of Police, I-G, Mr Olatunji Disu, said the Nigeria Police Force would not fully accept tinted vehicles on Nigerian roads and would, at a later date, begin enforcement against them. Disu said this on Tuesday in Abuja during a courtesy visit by a delegation from the Nigerian Bar Association led by its President, Mr Afam Osigwe, SAN.

The Nigeria Democratic Congress is set to become the main opposition political party in the Edo State House of Assembly as some members of the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party have defected to the party. The Edo NDC Chairman, Babatunde Olukoga, in a letter to the Assembly, asked Speaker Blessing Agbebaku to acknowledge the defection of three members from their former political parties to the NDC.

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday ordered the Department of State Services, DSS to investigate allegation by the prosecution that part of the evidence it tendered in court and served on lawyers to the defendants were displayed on social media. Justice Joyce Abdulmalik also ordered that if there was any evidence on social media, which contravened the court’s earlier order for witnesses’ protection, the DSS should investigate and bring the perpetrator to book.

The Police Command in Lagos has rescued 38 foreign nationals from a possible mob attack in the Epe area and launched an investigation into alleged illegal immigration activities. Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Tijani, disclosed this on Tuesday while briefing journalists at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja.

The Taraba State Government has reduced the monthly allowance of street sweepers -................mmmmmmmm-under its “Operation Keep Taraba Clean” programme from ₦15,000 to ₦10,000. The agency says the cut is needed to free up money for newly employed civil servants.

The Chairman of the Taraba State Environmental and Sanitation Agency, Hon. Illiya Kefas, confirmed the change. He told journalists in Jalingo that workers received ₦10,000 for May instead of the usual ₦15,000.

They started with ₦20,000 per month. Their pay was first reduced to ₦15,000 in 2024. Many workers accepted the earlier cut to keep their jobs. Hon Kefas noted that the decision was an internal agency measure to manage limited resources. He added that workers who do not want to continue under the new rate can leave the programme.

  1. Even the little they earn is been ... Is that not wickedness ? You pay a street aweeper 15k with all the risk Involved yet deeming it right to cut from in order to make room for other sect. Na wa!

    Discentralizing the Police, everything in life has a pro and con. May it be put to utmost use.
