The suit, filed on August 13, 2026 at the Federal High Court in Abuja, claims the anti‑graft commission violated his fundamental rights by allegedly stopping his family from bringing him food, medication and other necessities. El‑Rufai also accused ICPC officers of physically restraining and intimidating his wife and son during a visit on July 7. 2026
He wants the court to declare the restriction unconstitutional, illegal, and null and void, insisting that detainees are not meant to be kept incommunicado. He further asked for an order compelling the ICPC to allow unhindered access to his family and lawyers as earlier directed by another Federal High Court.
In an affidavit, his Principal Secretary said El‑Rufai is being held at the ICPC office in Abuja and that his wife has been supplying him with essential items. The affidavit also referenced a previous court order affirming that detainees must be allowed access to counsel and personal doctors.
El‑Rufai says the denial of access has caused him humiliation, emotional trauma, anxiety and psychological distress.
