Mr Kenneth Okonkwo, the spokesperson for the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Atiku Abubakar, has asserted that fuel subsidy should not exist in Nigeria.
During his appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Okonkwo, however, criticised the timing of fuel subsidy removal by the President Bola Tinubu administration, describing it as ill-conceived.

Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation Whirl Stroke, have killed a suspected kidnapper and arrested two others in separate operations across Benue State. The Acting Media Information Officer for OPWS, Lt. Ahmad Zubairu, stated this in a statement made available to journalists on Sunday.

The family of a woman, Olayinka Oremade, who was reportedly abducted by gunmen in the Alapako/Oyebola area of Ogun State, has appealed to the Nigeria Police Force and the government to intensify efforts to secure her release. The victim was reportedly kidnapped alongside one of her staff members on Friday, August 14, after gunmen allegedly attacked their vehicle while they were returning from a farm in the area.

The All Progressives Congress has won all 13 chairmanship and 171 councillorship seats contested in the Ebonyi State local government elections. The results were announced on Sunday by the Chairman of the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission, Patrick Enyi, at the commission’s office on Onwe Road, Abakaliki.

A joint security team in Anambra State has raided suspected secessionist hideouts in Ogbaru Local Government Area, killing six suspected members of the group during a prolonged gun battle. One security operative was also killed in the operation, while another sustained injuries after an explosive device suspected to have been planted in the area detonated.

The Chairman of Izalatil Bid’a Wa’ikamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS), Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir, has denied the claim that he does not like Christians, describing the reports as “mere allegations.” According to Sheikh Jingir, his remarks at a mass wedding ceremony organised by the Kano State Government for 1,500 couples were not meant to express dislike for Christians or non-Muslims.

The coordinator of the phantom National Brands Development and Made in Nigeria Special Project Office, Prince George Buchi Nwabueze, has released an appointment letter purportedly issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF). Nwabueze shared his purported appointment letter in a post on his LinkedIn page on Saturday, with the document carrying the OSGF letterhead.

The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has granted unconditional pardon to erring members ahead of the 2027 general elections. However, the party vowed to maintain zero tolerance for future acts of indiscipline, disloyalty and anti-party activities among its members.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, as Director of Fundraising for the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The appointment was contained in the list of members of the campaign council released on Saturday by the Presidency.
President Tinubu will serve as Chairman of the council, while Vice President Kashim Shettima will be Vice Chairman. APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, is also listed as Vice Chairman, while former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, will serve as Director-General.

Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, is the Secretary, while APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, and Hadiza Bala-Usman will serve as Deputy Secretary and Assistant Secretary respectively.
