Anambra State Govt Warns Against Denying Women Inheritance
The Anambra State Government has begun moves to prosecute anyone denying women and girls the right to inherit family property.
Attorney General Tobechukwu Nweke, SAN, directed the police to investigate such cases and forward files for prosecution. He stated that denying inheritance based on gender violates the Anambra State Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law, 2017, which carries up to four years imprisonment. The state’s Sxxual and Gender‑Based Violence Unit will handle the prosecutions.
