Her son, Nkanu (one of her twin boys) died in January 2026 while the family was in Lagos for the holidays. What began as a mild fever led to a hospital visit at Euracare Multi‑Specialist Hospital, where the toddler was sedated with propofol for an MRI. Chimamanda said a doctor later told her he had been given too much of the drug. He went into cardiac arrest and died the next day, just as the family was preparing to fly him to Johns Hopkins Hospital for further care.
She has publicly accused the hospital of medical negligence. Nigeria’s Medical and Dental Council found enough grounds to investigate the doctors involved, while a coroner’s inquest has faced delays and legal hurdles. The family says they are not focused on lawsuits — they want answers and better healthcare standards so no other family suffers the same pain.
When asked if Nigeria still felt close to her heart, she replied: “I do not want to go back to Nigeria.”

She's still hurting and rightly so. May God heal your heart and ease the pain. It's well.
ReplyDeleteAccept my deep condolences, Madam. It was a very sad and avoidable outcome due to human carelessness. But God allowed it to happen for a reason which we, humans, can never fathom. May He heal and strengthen you, husband and his twin sibling. Amen. Nigeria is your heritage and you shall return to it sooner than later. God bless.
DeleteNigeria happened to her.
ReplyDeleteSame thing the Akunyili children said after their father was murdered in cold blood.
And sadly, their mother's people choose to support the leader of the terrorist group that kpaid her. They prefer to blame the Federal government in Abuja.
DeleteGod will help us to be realistic
Nigeria happened to her.
ReplyDeleteSame thing the Akunyili children said after their father was murdered in cold blood.
Because Nigeria will always be the place she lost her infant while on holiday. I wish them all the best,
ReplyDeleteChai, this is so painful, and I would likely say the same thing I were in her position. May God comfort her and her husband.
ReplyDeleteIt's well with you ma'am. 🙏🏿😔
ReplyDeleteThis is so painful. I pray all the doctors involved are punished.
ReplyDeleteShe will always have this PTSD whenever she hears the name 'Nigeria '
Always! It will take a long time to get to a point where she will feel like herself again.
DeleteIt is well with you dear
ReplyDeleteChai
ReplyDeleteIt is well with her
Ehya.
ReplyDeleteIt is well with you 🤗🤗
I feel her pains. It's normal to feel such way. Wishing her all the best
ReplyDeleteHer son's death really traumatized her, I pray they all geal from the pains 🙏
ReplyDeleteI dont blame, I will be exactly same.
ReplyDeleteBut may God heal her of this trajma, the child's death was avoidable!
May God heal her of the trauma...
ReplyDeleteIt's not easy loosing a child
Oh! Dear, it's well with you
ReplyDeleteHer feelings are perfectly understandable. A child she brought home on holidays ended up dead due to somebody's carelessness and incompetence. She will never get over that pain, especially as she still has his twin brother. I cant even imagine the pain she must be going through. Nigeria will always represent that pain, most especially when she knows that the baby may not have died if she hadn't brought him to Nigeria.
ReplyDeleteThe allegation of negligence is not confirmed
DeleteIt’s someone’s career and the issue is pending investigation
17:51, overdosing is negligence. In fact, they may have overreacted. This seems to happen a lot among rich and well known Nigerians seeking medical assistance. They roll in a cannon to treat something that only needs a fly swat. This story reminds of the story from a few years before of the young woman who simply missed one period or two during the time she was preparing to travel abroad for a master's degree program. Everyone knows stress can cause missed periods, it happened to me. The doctor could have simply told her to watch how things were after the move and recommend exercise, healthy eating, and good sleep, at most, vitamins, instead a big to do was made over the matter and she was overtreated and also died. Overtreating is just as bad as undertreating.
DeleteQuiet understandable. It must have been really traumatizing. I pray I and my loved ones never get to explore that type of pain
ReplyDeleteMay the Holy Spirit continue to comfort her and her family
ReplyDeleteIt is well. I don't blame her at all. May Nigeria not happen to us.
ReplyDeleteHmmmm... life. Really sad. She only wanted to connect her children with her people.
ReplyDeleteHmnn, its understandable given her experience. It is well with her.
