Musa made the accusation during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday September 3, 2026
He said El‑Rufai’s administration created deep divisions in Kaduna State, making it difficult for residents from Southern Kaduna to live freely in the northern part of the state and vice versa. According to him, the current governor, Uba Sani, has been working to rebuild unity and restore trust.
“We know how it was when El‑Rufai was there; it was toxic,” Musa said. “He did a lot of terrible things. He divided the state into two.”
Musa said people in Southern Kaduna remain deeply pained over the killings recorded during El‑Rufai’s tenure, alleging that the former governor was proud of his actions.
He referenced El‑Rufai’s past statements, claiming the former governor openly admitted to paying bandits and taking actions that worsened insecurity.
The minister also accused El‑Rufai of denying opportunities to certain groups and implementing policies that harmed even people from his own part of the state.
Musa urged Nigerians to reject politicians who use religion, ethnicity or other divisions to gain power, describing such individuals as enemies of the state.
