Nigerian Men Extradited to US Over Multi Million Dollar Romance Scam
Six Nigerian nationals have been extradited from South Africa to the United States over allegations that they defrauded more than one hundred women through online romance scams.
US prosecutors say the group used fake identities on dating sites to lure victims, build trust and obtain money, targeting pensioners and business people through carefully crafted online relationships. They have been handed over to US authorities and are expected to face charges in a federal court.
The US Department of Justice says the case is part of ongoing efforts to crack down on transnational cybercrime, disrupt money laundering networks, seize assets and support arrests and prosecution.
Some people think when they are online they are anonymous, they don't know that any messages from your phone or laptops can be trace, why ? because the messages comes with some unique generic numbers which are your machine number (phone or laptop/ computer) and then your unique Internet ISP numbers which can be use to trace you. So you are not actually anonymous online as you think.
