TikTok Blackout And Restriction Reportedly Hits Northern Nigeria
TikTok users across Northern Nigeria have been experiencing major disruptions for days, with many now relying on VPNs to access the platform. Checks from Kano, Kaduna, Sokoto and other Northern states show that since Monday, the app has been failing to load properly.
Users complained of frozen feeds, videos refusing to load, and uploads stalling on regular mobile data. The development comes weeks after TikTok announced it removed 4.8 million videos in Nigeria and suspended 120,000 LIVE sessions in Q1 2026 for violating community guidelines, in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser. As of now, TikTok has not issued an official statement, and it remains unclear whether the issue is a technical routing problem, a telco‑level restriction, or a government directive.
Probably a government directive. That's how they keep the people from that section impoverished from innovations, so they can keep lieing to them about happenings. Tomorrow you wonder why they're not catching up with the rest of the country in education and knowledge.
So it is on TikTok that they will get education and knowledge. You think its nothing to do with the insecurity in the country and all the kidnapping for ransom and killing of Christians. If Nigeria doesn't care about these things, other countries are bound and have to be responsible for the role their platform plays in such things
Is the insecurity limited to the North alone? If so, why didn't they restrict it in Abuja as well? Truth be told, there is so much information to learn through the use of this app. If we all keep quiet, one day they will extend it to the Southern region, both in the West and in the East.
Do you remember how the Buhari government banned Twitter, now X, at the time? What if this is just testing the waters to see people's reactions? Don't be deceived, elections are in January; they may decide to restrict internet connectivity on election day. This could just be a test run. Hopefully, I won't have to revisit this comment in January.
Please don't say what you don't know about an app. You are definitely not a TikTok app user because if you are using the app regularly you won't be saying this. Your algorithm supplies you with the things that interests you based on your previous engagement in the app and I know how much knowledge I acquire every year on TikTok . Knowledge that one would spend 4 or more yrs to gain in the university .
Or simply because majority of Northerners are muslims, with some condemning Amrika and is- rahell Geno-ci- dal and war activities in Pales-tine, Ir-an and chaos by then around the world.
