Former VP Atiku's Wife Titi Raises Alarm Over Conduct Of Nigerian Girls In The Diaspora

The wife of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Network Against Child Trafficking, Abuse and Labour (NACTAL), Chief Titi Atiku Abubakar, has raised alarm over the rising cases of human trafficking involving Nigerian girls.

On Thursday in Abuja at the presentation of NACTAL’s review of the 2025 Trafficking in Persons Report released by the United States Department of State, Titi Atiku said Nigerian girls going abroad are becoming a “nuisance” in their host countries. Explaining why international partners are supporting Nigeria’s anti-trafficking efforts, she said they want Nigerian girls to stay back home and build their lives in Nigeria.

Titi Atiku, who is also the founder of the Women Trafficking and Child Labour Eradication Foundation (WOTCLEF), called for stronger collaboration among civil society organisations, noting that NACTAL has about 286 CSOs working with it as foot soldiers and cannot fight trafficking alone.

  1. Is she in tune with today’s realities or just following her PA’s programme?
Nigerians, both men and women, are hardworking honest people abroad. The few exceptions are not even up to 1% of Nigerians in diaspora, so she needs to channel her energy to the current realities.

  2. Stay back home for what? So they can set up salons and studios for hair and makeup businesses right? Unemployment is at a high in Nigeria, with very slim chance of getting a quality job after serving your country. That’s why many, with no choice, opt to travel abroad for greener pasture.
For a fact, majority of my ‘house wives’ friends who couldn’t secure a job in Nigeria are employed abroad and are able to support their families. No one wants to be a second class citizen in another man’s country, but the problem of Nigeria makes them continue to endure abroad.
Please, the reality is the hardship in Nigeria. Don’t try to downplay it by saying Nigerians are becoming a nuisance abroad, when all they are doing is making a honest living for themselves.

    2. Honest living doesn't constitute nuisance.. she's talking of the ones who are constituting nuisance in their host community

  3. Are they trafficking themselves, find the head of the snakes before blaming the victims. Even the ones who travelled out to go work in Ar@b lands as domestics and hotel workers are meeting wahala, are those workers exploiting and abusing themselves in their legitimate jobs?

Too many ppl with privilege look at issues without deep understanding or even simple empathy. When they and their peers are the ones who create the systems of oppression that they expect their ‘lessers’ to happily live under, why would they care if innocent young women are being trafficked and abused. You look at some of their own domestic staff and those ppl are in no better place, no advancement or progression working for them 20 years after they first started; no medical benefits, life insurance, tuition reimbursement, home owners support, nothing. Yet, these are the ppl caring for them and their children. Their constituencies are worst than dumps, those who work in their businesses are making the bare minimum wage. Some of these ppl who are politicians and politician adjacent who think holding microphones make them someone worth listening to should go clean the gunk that is sitting between some of their arse cheeks for weeks, that is a more worthwhile pursuit than their garbage rhetoric and useless microphone holding. Nuisance!!!

    1. Using that word nuisance tells me everything about her 💯. She’s just going through the motions. No real passion or activism
