The tenant had allegedly lived in his self-contained apartment for six years and the rent started at ₦200,000 a year. The landlord says he has increased it every year and this time he planned to raise it to ₦350,000.
The tenant allegedly punched him in the eye for thinking about such...
Nigerians are really suffering in the hands of their landlords...If you hear the stories you will scream….Someone had her rent increased from 5m to 7m and then this year to 15m without notice...She didnt pay rent for 6 months until she found a new place which she says is even better….I told her the new landlord would do same soon...

The man was frustrated, but he shouldn't have punched his landlord, what if he fell and died, landlords are showing their tenants shege banza in this Nigeria, especially Lagos state, house na diamond.
ReplyDeleteIf you hear the full gist now, he may have hit the tenant first.
ReplyDeleteWicked landlord. The house may not even worth the 300k current rent
Living in Nigeria is so frustrating. It's well abeg. He shouldn't have punched him though.
ReplyDeleteE Pele sir
ReplyDeleteVawulence is not the answer but some landlords too do. Another set of people that need to be dealt with is house agents, they are a menace.
ReplyDeleteThose ones are devil incarnates (agents)
DeleteInasmuch as I don't support him beating his landlord, some landlord sef toooo do! We all see how TOUGH the economy is and you choose this time to increase the rent! Haba! Even me wey dey talk, mine has been increased too! 😥 Buy I no go punch my landlord.
ReplyDeleteNa to jejely pack out o, because that landlord will not give him breathing space 🥺
ReplyDeletePeople are going through hell in the hands of landlords now.
Na wetin fit some landlords, and those type of koromoto landlords inherited the building from their father and they have no other source of income apart from the house.
ReplyDeleteI keep saying we are helping landlords secure their future.
ReplyDeleteThe way landlords are increasing rent now is so alarming.. one just gave all his tenants in my street quit notice. He wants to renovate and collect high rent from new tenants.
ReplyDeleteWhere I’m living ppl are hardly renting 1 bedrooms anymore, they prefer to pool and share with a roommate. I see lots of signs for rental apartments and nobody is touching them. A lot of these ppl depending on rental income are going to find nobody to rent their places because potential renters will either choose to live with family or build something small that they own.
DeleteA lot of things are changing my side fast. Airbnb ppl keep complaining they ain’t making money like one time. Uber is also falling apart, less drivers in the pool and ppl opting to take bus and save their money. Ppl just trying to keep as much of their incomes as they can these days. Times are a changing.
While the assault is completely wrong and unacceptable, raising the rent every single year is very hard on tenants. Moving from 200,000 Naira to 350,000 Naira is a big jump for a self contained room. Landlords dem, biko, make una sef dey consider the economic situation of una long term tenants to avoid being punched...Many Nigerians are angry and frustrated and na small thing dey trigger dem.
ReplyDeleteSome landlords are mean.
ReplyDeleteThe tenant shouldn't have done that, though.
We won't have this if the system is working.
ReplyDeleteSome landlord and landlady over do things.
ReplyDeleteIncreasing rent every Eke Market day..
Tell them to go build on their ancestral land they will think you intend evil for them. The 350k isn’t even high as far as rent goes but he is out here punching ppl in the eye. Get out of renting as early in life as possible. Better to force and build a three room structure than to be at the mercy of a landlord.
