ASUU VS NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT- Ultimatum Is Over And ASUU Says ''Send Sack Letters''

Striking lecturers in the nation’s public universities on Monday made good their decision not to return to work as directed by the Federal Government.
The striking ASUU Members also refused to sign the attendance registers in their respective institutions as ordered by the government.
They said they were only waiting for the sack letters the Federal Government threatened to give them if they did not return to work.

In many of the universities visited by journalists, only administrative offices opened for business while the lecture rooms were empty. Particularly, lecturers’ offices remained shut.
President Goodluck Jonathan, on Monday, urged the striking teachers to call off the industrial action.
The President, who spoke at the All Nigerian Judges Conference organised by the National Judicial Council in Abuja, on Monday, said the industrial action would prevent the country from achieving the Vision 2020 target of becoming one of the top 20 economies in the world by 2020.
Although the Federal Government had recently threatened to sack the lecturers for going on strike, Jonathan noted that ASUU had the right to embark on the industrial action.
He said, “This administration recognises and respects the right of workers, including the right to embark on industrial action to press home their demand and have taken concrete steps to address the grievances of ASUU.
“I therefore use this occasion to call on ASUU to call off its strike.”culled

Mandela passed on to glory few days ago but world over he iss celebrated as a hero today,am sure he was called all sort of names by cowardly south africans who would rather be safe than free!
ASUU should hold on and get what dey want.

  18. Some youths are really very stupid! So bcos d strike is 5months old or bcos d FG has tried or bcos students are eager 2 go bk 2 skul den dey shud call off d strike and continue producing quarter-baked graduates! Graduates who can not address a group of 10? Graduates who are unemployable! U are studying computer science buh u've neva seen a computer! No laboratories, no libraries, no classrooms, 200-500 students in a class? And u say dat's a school? Mehnnn everytin is just soo wrong! This is our chance. If we don't do it now we'll neva b able 2 do it! The FG is trying 2 turn d public against ASUU and dat's very wrong and they'll not succeed! Dey can only get d gullible one's 2 support dem but not those who are learned and informed! We'll join in dis "fight of redemption"! Our educational system must be salvaged! Asuu has refused to be compromised and dat shows honesty and forthrightness! Let's do dis 4 d next generation, let's do it 4 d kids unborn! Government must comply with ASUU's terms! Until den, d strike continues! #TeamAsuu

    2. If asuu really want to revitalize the university then they have to start with their corrupt lecturers. They have completely ignore the issue of exchanging sex for marks which is more abominable and corrupt than whatever they may accuse fg of. I don't have time to type now but stop exposing your ignorance here.... go read the content of m.o.u between asuu and fg you. 90% of their demand has no direct benefit to students. Make Google your friend sir!

  19. sometimes i wonder if our students are unintelligent, here is asuu fighting the cause that they themselves should be demanding from the government and some people are here calling them goats, is it better to call off the strike and start another next year? or fight it now even if it takes a year? (though i strongly doubt) and then resolve it once and for all.
many of you are rushing to graduate when you aren't sure of jobs when you graduate. and you stay there calling them goats?!

  23. The irony of the whole thing is that a lot of the fools talking here DONOT WANT TO BE TEACHERS because of the way they are been treated and because it is not lucrative..meanwhile when they go to other countries and they get teaching jobs they jump at it cos they pay is good..and these jobs they can't get using the Nigerian certificate.u still have to take a course from one of their universities to be relevant..Some good citizens have realised that and they have decided to lay their lives down for the up coming generations so they can have a good life in their fatherland and these bunch of fools are complaining..why can't u guys think outside the box???y would a student in the faculty of education seek for a job in the bank?? Would everybody complaining boost of a good and condusive environment for learning in their various schools?? One thing u guys need to understand is..if the lecturers are comfortable, u can never have half baked graduates in the society..The government shld knw tht the lectuerers are the intermediary between the students and them..they should be able to give them whteva they ask for if they want the standard of education to rise...I bet a lot of u have come aross a situation whereby because someone schooled abroad, she is made a boss over you and u have to be the one to put her through the job..please guys..whteva asuu is fighting for is for our benefits..cos really nigeria's unversity certificate isn't really revelant again even in the Nigeria itself..
If Jonathan is really desperate for schools to resume,he should buy new pairs of shoes,go around all the universities in Nigeria to lecture them..
