Hepatitis Epidemic....What Do You Know About It?

''There appears to be an unrecognised Hepatitis B and C epidemic in Kwara State particularly in the rural areas surrounding Ilorin. In the last year, 3 prospective house helps from there have tested positive. These 3 young ladies are quite young with 2 of them not even sexually active yet. There is clearly another means of transmission spreading it. In fact, an 11 year old family member also tested positive recently.

This is particularly frightening because Hepatitis is every bit as dangerous as HIV if left untreated. It spreads quite rapidly and such an active, untreated carrier should not even prepare your food or take care of your children.  I am not a medical professional so I'll let them explain the situation.  Perhaps this is an issue for the Kwara State government as well.

Please test all domestic workers, drivers and gardeners and laundry men. They play with your kids, touch your things. …..''

  1. Hepatitis is deadlier than HIV ooo.
Cos it is said to be asymptomatic I.e u feel like u are ok meanwhile you are infected.

  2. True talk. That was the ailment that killed my Dad in less than 2 years. He was able to live for the 2 years because of the treatment he got. It made his liver cancerous, lost weight, vomiting blood and was so lean when he died on his hospital bed. It kills faster than HIV, but it's sad because it is not given the publicity given to HIV and people are not aware at all.

  4. Since I was a child my parents made sure we got vaccinated against certain dioseases, Hep being one, cholera, tb. I weny for HIV test last week after hearing so many jingles and since it was HIV/AIDS awareness week, thank God it came out negative. Ones health is something to joke with! Ladies should take HPV vaccine too to prevent cervical cancer.

  9. Are they sure it is B and C?

From my scant knowledge strain A is caused by poor hygiene, poor sanitation, personal/household contact and contaminated food and water.

The B one can be passed from mother to child. The C like B can be contracted through sexual contact, sharing needles, tattoos, body piercing etc.

A lot of people don't even know the source of infection.

Instead of taking the HPV vaccine, do a pap smear.

  10. I remember my brother had it when he was in Sec. Sch. He was just 11years then and living in a boarding school. They had an outbreak in their school.

Hepatitis is very deadly o, I remember my brother became so lean, you could even count his ribs, his eyes were yellowish, his body was aching him so much. Inshort he looked like a skeleton. He spent months in the hospital until he recovered fully. At a time we all thought he won't make it. I thank God because today, he is a very healthy young man and doing very well.
Doctors in the house please enlighten us more about this disease. What causes it?

  16. Hepatisis means injury to the liver with inflammations to the liver cell. Hepatisis is considered to be mnore deadly than the HIV virus.

Hepatisis are in types. Which are Type A,B,C,D,E, G & X.
Hepatisis A: is contacted via infected water or food, anal or oral sex can also be a cause.
Hepatisis A is cure-able and does not lead to chronic disease.

Hepatitis B: is an STD, i.e transmitted thru unprotected sex and it spreads by contacts with blood, semen or other body fluid. It can also be transmitted thru the sharing of sharp objects, breastfeeding or when bitten by a carrier.
the liver of a person infected with type B virus swells and it causes severe damage to the liver leading to cancer.

Hepatisis C: can be contacted thru direct contact with the blood of a carrier, Hepatisis C unlike B type can lead to cancer.

Hepatisis D: only a person with Hepatiss B can be infected with Hapatasis D which is contacted thru unprotected
sex, blood and body fluid. And infected person experience swelling of the liver.

Hepatisis E: A person can become infected mainly by drinking water that contains Hepatisis E virus, this may lead to swelling of the liver but does not have long time consequences. It is also contacted thru anal sex.
Hepatisis X: Hepatisis X cannot be attributed to the virus that causes Hepatisis A,B, C, D or E, therefore it is an unknown virus.

Hepatisis G: is caused by Hepatisis G virus, which usually have no symptoms and when there are, the symptoms are very mild.

    Sign & symptoms include:
    Vomiting
    Fatigue
    Loss of appetite
    Mild fever
    Diarrhea
    Mnuscle & joint pain
    Slight abdominal pain
    Weight loss.

As a symptoms get worse a person may experience the for following:
    Dark urine
    Dizziness
    Drowsiness
    Enlarged spleen etc

Pls google to get more informed on Hepatisis Virus, causes, effects n treatment.

  17. Doctors are not commenting they're on strike! Anyways there's Hep A B C. All can be treated Hep A is less deadly than B and C and can be contacted from poor hygiene Eg unwashed fruits, extremely dirty surroundings (I'm not being tribalistic but pls watch and wash whatever You buy from Aboki and a Yoruba woman especially if it's edible we all know this set of people have hygiene issues) B and C are deadly, sexually transmitted but is treatable if discovered early. All Hepatitis don't show symptoms till it's at its late stage so get tested today if positive get treated if negative get vaccinated. PS @Galore my heart goes out to Your friend the guy is 2cents asshole an ignorant one!
