ATTENTION :Covenant University‏

A parent who has a ward in Convenant University wants these complaints to be looked into ASAP

''Hi Stella, I know your blog is widely read and somehow this message will get to the necessary authorities. This is not meant to throw shades at  the University authority‎ or its Leadership but a subtle cry that certain things be looked into.

1) why should a plate of food in the cafeteria in the halls of residence be sold for 700 naira per plate? To students? How many times are they expected to eat in a day?

2) why should a bottle of "Hebron " water be sold for 100naira within the halls of residence? Mind you, Hebron water is produced in Canaanland, Covenant University is in canaanland, both HEBRON water and Covenant University are owned by the same person. Hebron water is sold everywhere else including canaanland at 50 naira, why should it be sold at 100naira to the students? What's the rationale? How much would they spend on water in a day?

3) why should stuff sold in the university's shopping mall be sold at double or sometimes triple the normal selling price?
Is it not just a case of exploitation since the students cannot go out of school without an exeat, therefore are forced to buy whatever is sold to them at whatever price fits the whims and caprices of whoever fixes the price‎ as they clearly have no choice?

I think these things should be looked into. Covenant University is a great institution in every ramification but after paying the fees and running all other compulsory bills to ensure your ward is somewhat comfortable in school, the least we expect from CU is slam us with exorbitant  selling price of necessaries, the 100 naira bottle water is particularly annoying.

Our wards in CU are not the only ones we are training, besides, since a high percentage of the students are children of tithe paying, offering paying members of the Church, it would only be fair that anything that resembles exploitative capitalism in any form be totally wiped out of the system , if you deprive people, students of affordable food and water,then........''

  1. Why will you even send your ward to a glorified secondary school boarding house? It's so much costlier, I don't get the rationale. Not like it's easy to gain admission there.
    CU authorities, take note.

At Delta state university, school fees-19,100 , accomodation- 10,000 , Feeding- Anywhere u want{ bring ur stove or gas and cooking utensils frm home.. No forget ur food stuffz ooo.. Pure water #5.. Borehole water #free... I'm still getting my qualitative education and can stand my ground anywhere in the world notwithstanding the challenges most state schools in nigeria are facing..God bleSs Nigeria !!

    2. Seriously Madam, that's not what you should be concerned about,he has made valid points..its totally exploitation due to the fact that these students must buy from within the halls of resident or whatever its called.if there was an alternative place of purchase,am sure products won't be this costly..

On the other hand, its widely believed that those who go there are the rich and if you can afford the exorbitant fees what's the peanuts added to products compared to your overflowing wealth.

    3. Poster stop making a fuss out of nothing. Ask your ward to tell you the truth please.I attended CU and I never saw all these things you spoke about. Your ward is scamming you steady and instead of carrying out your investigations you decide to rant online. This won't do much for you. Go the school and lodge your complaints. Its as simple as that.
You also have a choice of collecting your ward's transcript and transferring him/her to another school.

Btw as far as I can remember the church collects offering for covenant university project, isnt dat what such offerings are supposed to augment for when or if the need arises?

But then it might be that the management does not know this is happening, gud that the issue is brought up,they might have their side of the story!

    7. Lush green you are missing the point. This is a Christian institution, exploitation on any grounds is wrong

    8. You people are not even serious. That one can afford to pay fees in an institution does not mean you should turn a blind eye to certain things that are wrong there. Do that which is right.

    9. Anonymous 10.30, I am the poster, nobody is scaming anybody. I went to eat in that cafeteria myself, I bought a bottle of water from the buttery in Esther hall myself, Hebron water 100naira for one bottle. Food at 700 per plate was not even tasty abeg.
Why should a cafeteria that's situate around peter, Esther, Mary and Lydia halls be expensive? A very affordable cafeteria should be there then the expensive ones should be outside so that if you have to give yourself a treat, you can decide to go and eat there.
There's no active student union so complaints like these will never arise. The dean of students and some other staff are alumni of the school so how do you chanel complaints through such medium and expect objectivity?
I am almost certain the Bishop and founder of the school is not aware of some of these issues. Be that as it may, even if all the students in CU are Mike Adesuwa or Dangote's Children, a plate of food 700naira anywhere on campus is EXHORBITANT

    10. We re d problem in this country. When some1 sees something that's wrong we turn a blind eye cos our family n loved ones ain't directly involved. D fact that most of us do not see the need 4 admitting our kids in2 such institution does not mean we should insult d poster or those who did. 4 heavens sake this complains are relevant, d extortion in our private unis re something else what hurts most is that most of them if not all re owned by very rich Men of God. He has chosen this medium to reach out 2 d authorities/owners of this institution why curse him/her out? Na wa o

    11. Poster where exactly did you buy food inside the cafeteria? Is it bashan? I finished from CU in 2011 and throughout my stay I never bought a plate of food for N700. Infact I spend about 150_200per meal either buying swallow or rice and beef. On days I had extra cash, ill buy pepper rice for N500. I'll take my food to my room and buy pure water N5. My point is ask your ward how he spends. He/she should be prudent. I never bought provisions in the school supermarket, rather ill take day exeat and go to sango ota market to purchase or just bring alot when coming from home. This is 2015, I know alot must have changed, but I doubt meals will go up to N700. Also at night, I used to buy akara, fried yam n plantain and eat. Well my monthly allowance back then was N10k and I remember saving 2k/month and paying tithe untop. So please tell your ward to be prudent with spending

if anything theirs should be cheaper, in other schools, things Sold in the school premises are cheaper, from pure water to Bus/cab fare. This doesn't tell well of the school.
But then maybe CU is not responsible for the stores, it could be that the vendors paid exorbitant amount of money for rent(i mean the rent has to be CU standard) and they only way they can make profit is to himke up the price of commodities being sold.
I'm not new to this, during anointing Service in one LFC branch anointing oil that sells for 150 just outside the church goes for as much as 250. I used to frown at it then and wonder.

    1. Exactly, the prices of these items should be subsidized for the students after paying such staggering school fees.

i am shocked beyond words, even some salary earners can't afford #700 per meal.

Some parents will have to rob the banks to keep their wards in that school cuz tentatively a child needs an average of about 60k every month just to feed and drink water, other expenses not inclusive.

Why should Madonna be as expensive as CU with the poor infrastructures there(am not supporting the high fees in CU though)??? Is it d faculty of law building that is used to deceive outsiders that only the students and school authorities know that the "faculty of law building" has nothing to do with any faculty but serves as a hostel to students....hostel without ceiling, the roofing sheets are planks are all visible to see, no wardrobes....everyone just put their bags and boxes on d floor,, or is it the lectures some students receive under the tree with a blackboard?? If you say the meals you buy in your cafeteria is good enough, then you aren't a good cook. The only reason i accept any denial from you on these points is IF you were not a student of that school that particular year i was there and probably the school has improved on all these now, otherwise, there's no level of comparison between Madonna and CU.

By the time you walk down there, eat and walk down to the hostel, what would be left in your stomach? Hunger. Abeg what is bad is bad. ReplyDelete
  52. Dear poster, I have a few questions for you.
    1. Why did you choose to send your ward/child to Covenant University when there are other thousands of universities that can be easily afforded? You ought to have done your homework on their feeding and shopping style before sending your child.
    2. Why can't your ward go to the cafeteria where food is cheaper instead of opting for hostel food services? The additional charge on the food is for the service rendered. To have breakfast in bed or at your door step (halls of residence) comes with a cost you know? Besides, how many times does your child visit the cafeteria in a day? Students who visit the cafeteria 3 times in a day are either lacking provisions (beverages) or do not attend lectures.
    3. Why haven't you filed a complaint to the school authority instead of coming here to rant? Trust me only the students will probably see this and not the appropriate administrative body.
Just so you know, items in covenant university's shopping mall have always been expensive right from the days of John the Baptist, the wise ones purchase whatever they need outside school with approved exeat or better still buy whatever they can afford in the mall.
My final advice to you is that the school authority will not because of you reduce prices of items sold in the premises. (More often than not, they are not responsible for the inflated prices) Advice your child to buy food in the cafeteria and also purchase pure water instead of Hebron water (they sell in the hostel tuck-shops)
People have attended that university and survived; (including me) your ward should not be an exemption!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The poster is not complaining about the school fees but about things which are not supposed to be. Why do you complain when there's an increase in fuel price?
Under no guise should food be sold at 700 per plate anywhere on that campus. Under no guise should water be sold at 100 anywhere in the buttery, yes, Esther Hall buttery to be precise.
If you survived without complaints, it doesn't mean people should keep shut if a change can be made.
Covenant University is not just any other university but a Christian University. The ways of Christ should reflect. Jesus Christ fed the multitudes, he did not collect money from them. We are not asking for a repeat but please try not too make so much profit from food especially when you are making billions left, right and centre.
It's because of laid backness of people that such things will go on forever. Mtshew

      Delete
    2. Well said. .. you have said it all. I'm an Eagle too. . Only those who stab lectures or those who dont have provisions have time to go to the cafetaria 3times daily. And if you must buy food from the hall of residence instead of the cafetaria, then be ready to bear the extra cost.

I believe it's your ward that is trying to live beyond his or her means . The Hebron water is packaged as both satchet and bottled water . The satchet water is sold at 5naira and the bottled water is 50 naira . Pls must your ward take the bottled water? The quality of both the satchet and the bottled water are the same. I believe your ward came up with these tales to get more money from you. My advice to you will be you go there yourself and see things for yourself rather than calling out the school like this without making appropriate investigations of your own.

    1. Madam covenant university graduate anonymous 10.23, I bought the good myself from the cafeteria behind peter hall, not once, not twice and that's how much I paid. I bought a bottle of Hebron water from Esther hall buttery 100naira. So what are you saying???

      Delete
    2. Now you are fully aware, there is no need to reply everyone. Simply tell your ward to buy pirewater and drink. I always had a bag of purewater in my room (N100). Please advice him as well not to buy bashan everyday, too much turkey will make him/her fat. He can eat swallow for N200/250, buy white rice, jollof, fried for 200/250 and in the evening buy fried yam n plantain. Anyway if you always want your ward to eat bashan then simply calculate the total cost of feeding for a month and give your ward. A carton of turkey in the market aint cheap. They use chinese rice and add sauce. So please stop complaining

      Delete
    3. Wether the ward buys their water or not, it doesn't change the fact that a bottle of water is sold for 100naira and it's bad.
For the records, we buy cartons of bottled water which we take to the child as at when due, that also is a common practice amongst many.
You people should stop defending blindly, what is bad is bad.
Some of you have missed the ratio and are dwelling on the Obiter.
Anyways, it's my earnest desire that certain things change for the better in CU and we shall see to it.

Bottled water is N50 and there is satchet water by hebron also. The supermart within CU and the one opposite the filling station sell items at very reasonable prices which are comparable to ibo run neighbour shops. 84. Hmmmm.... If only Christianity can be like the days of old. Missionary schools were owned by churches then and the sole aim was to educate the people irrespective of your background. I remember the late Abiola attended a missionary school even though he was a muslim. But these days, the reverse is the case. The desire for financial gain has overtaken the need to serve humanity the way Christ taught us. What percentage of Nigerians can afford to send their children to these schools owned by these churches? Its so sad that there is so much emphasis on prosperity but not much is being said about the end days. The old time religion is good enough for me anyday, anytime!

  93. These things you people are saying isn't right atall. Because i have the money to send my child to a private uni, doesnt mean i should be full exploited c'mon! You guys shouting "take your child to a federal uni".. Pls be realistic.. In a private school,ur childs days are numbered, except of course,he/she fails and has to repeat a class or some courses.. Is dt d same for a federal uni? .. Where strikes, cultism are the order of the day. Pls lets be reasoning before we talk oh. Also those are shouting send your kid to a uni abroad really?? I hope you know 700k (my brothers school fees in cu) is nothing to compared to millions (at least 1.5 for starters in a uni abroad)...
C.U is a private university.. If there where no rules it'll be like any other university-public! Having rules is what makes them diffrnt! Agreed, their rules are somewhat annoying! But you cant see someone who has passed through CU without knowing! They stand out! Even those that disliked the system while they were there.
About those complaining about the high prices of the fees.. The school wouldnt run itself you know? All those internet u see.. Is nt free? - Do you guys know Oral Roberts Uni in America? Its a private christian uni- its expensive!! So stop with the bullocks abt hw freaking expensive it is! Pray that God continues to bless you so much so that to take care of your child wouldnt be a problem!
Hahaha! Cn i breathe pls? His jet needs to be taken care of? I do not see the fuss in him acquiring a PJ.. Because he is a man of God doesnt mean he should leave like a pauper! My God is a Rich God! Even the cars papa have,u should know that he was given! How can a man of God with a tad of activities,be hustling to get tickets just to fly abroad.. Wen he is rich to get a pj? Because of what people would say- he shouldnt get one? Stop with the criticisms my people! Stop it! It irks of sheer ignorance.. Same for those that are going on and on about how she,the guardian, saw the school before taking her child there! Pls stop ! The levels or rating of federal uni has dropped drastically! So if u think your great federal uni is what it used to be 20 years ago.. Pls get off your high horse freal! Most parents who cant afford to send their kids to intl uni.. Will most times opt for a private uni!
Lastly, madam! My brother cannot face my mom and tell he eats 700naira meals every day! Let ur son buy a much cheaper food. I am sure he know the place. U just went to eat in d expensive place. If the administratn wouldnt look into the water prices.. Make it a duty to send ur son or is it daughter? , packs of bottled water when he is leaving for school, and wen he is in school also. Tht should work! May God continue to strengthen u and provide for you! May you never cry over ths child or any tht you have atall. I know what my mother does to pay my brothers fees.. But does she want the best for him- Yes! Will she take him to a unilag? Hell No!
