AIT Replies Tinubu's Threat to Sue, Demands N100bn Damages

AIT has replied Bola Tinubu's threat to sue over a documentary titled “Unmasking The Real Tinubu” being transmitted on the TV channel.

Following Tinubu's demand of N20 billion and stoppage in transmission of a certain defamatory documentary titled “Unmasking The Real Tinubu” aired by African Independent Television (AIT), Daar Communications Plc has rejected the
demands and in its reaction, declares that AIT, in transmitting the documentary was only carrying out its constitutional responsibility to uphold the fundamental objectives of the constitution.

The media company is therefore demanding a complete withdrawal of the letter under reference, which must be given wide publicity, an apology to be published in at least four leading national newspapers and four television stations, which must include NTA, Channels and AIT.

The sum of one hundred billion Naira representing aggravated, punitive and exemplary damages for the irreparable injury inflicted on AIT is also being demanded according to the company's legal representative,  Mike Ozekhome.

THIS IS THE DOCUMENTARY IN CONTENTION AND IT IS ALMOST 47 MINUTES

HIAN!.....This is some serious drama about to unfold ooooh!

  6. Meanwhile, AIT should go and sit down. If they cannot substantiate the nitty gritty entailed in the documentary, then they are liable for the defamatory allegation against them. A documentary in its totality should not be based on falsehood or mere assumptions.

It's like writing a biography full of lies... they should better scrutinize their source and have ready their facts before they pursue a litigation or counter litigation.

    1. Lol.
      That documentary was really scrupulous.
I was almost applauding the sponsors of such thought provoking piece.
      They left no stones unturned.
      Lol. Politics is so interesting.

Sisi Eko, there were substantial evidences that roped Jagaban into the mess, down to his drugs peddling convictions and several foreign bank accounts.

So, in totality (allow me borrow me your line) I don't think the aired documented piece was a farce.
There's a truth about the misdeeds of the Lion of Bourdillon hidden in plain sights, and that got him all riled up.

    2. Madam it was a sponsored documentary.
By law AIT has committed no offence by airing it. Tinubu should either prove the allegations false or go deal with the sponsors.
      This is just the beginning

    3. Wow!!!

I am enjoying these comments, Arianna, Ait is in wrong by airing what they Ve no proof about, but can Tinubu in all honesty risk a lawsuit??? Truth be told, Tinubu has skeletons in his cupboard, don't Gani had a case against Tinubu and we all know what happens when cases like this finally get to d court house.

Tinubu will just make noise, and go un quietly into d night and Ait knows it too.

I also think that this is d beginning of more expose documentaries on corrupt politicians, does Tinubu not own Tvc, and The Nation newspaper???

      These are interesting times!!!
Don't take any of these things to heart jare... all these freak shows are for gullible Nigerians, who doesn't know Tinubu?? These news is nothing new, how come Tinubu has not been prosecuted, is he bigger than Efcc and Icpc???

    5. For real? @ Mrs BB ? Quite honestly I haven't watched the documentary. But whatever it is, how do we know the details are factual? You see, that's where the problem lies.

If the details of his convictions are made public with the charges, then I think that's about factual enough...but with a clause. If ear say, then AIT should jolly well be ready to prove that they have the right under the investigative journalism media law to make public such details in their documentary. Sponsored or not.

Ezeweanyi is right. AIT should have done an independent investigation before going ahead with the sponsored documentary. They are as liable as the originator. See, there are certain media rules guiding issues like this. Even convicted criminals still hold the right to call for a litigation if their cases are aired without their consent. Media publication rights have to be issued.

It is only in Nigeria that we do things through the back door. I assure you that if tinubu pursues this matter he'll win

And Arianna dear. Tinubu cannot confirm or deny to an allegation made in a documentary. He can only do that in a competent court of law if charged. AiT is a TV station, and hence do not have a right to hold legal briefs for anyone.

  24. Hahahahh Tinubu is a joker he'a got no image to protect, we all know he is a criminal who's living room should be converted to his jail house.
We support APC Buhari as president but not Tinubu am just worried how GMB will tackle his criminality.
How can he defend those allegation hanging over his head the past years.
I think the documentary is in order but my problem is the timing, we all know is political because same government of Jonathan should've prosecuted him the past years were OBJ government stopped but they never did. The present government has evidence, knows properties acquired by Tinubu but never did anything about it. With all the allegation he should be in jail and not outside, lagosians are suffering today because of one man's greed the state should just be called "Tinubu state".
If Tinubu should sue AIT for defamatory then GEJ should sue 70% of Nigerians for same offence after all we curse him daily and accuse him of corruption even when we know is true.

This is the reason am opposing GMB because Thief tinubu wants to colonise Nigeria the way he has done to Lagos State. That was why Obj seized the FG Allocation of Lagos. Jaymoore you cannot compare sporadic accusations made by many Nigerians, which by the way is always scattered tru the media... to that of a conjoined documentary made by a certain group of persons o. If anyone made a documentary about GEJ...and he feels it's wrong, he can sue too...

    8. @Ezenwanyi we agree all of them are corrupt, they are no good but i just mentioned the man in question as the post indicate.
@Sisi Eko lets just be honest for once. Even without watching documentary you know Tinubu is corrupt and has a lot of question to answer. My problem is that he is untouchable. Is he not a convicted drug peddler? Is he not the owner of oriental hotel ? His company collect lagos taxes and takes home 10% just to name a few. Are those not corruptible offence for a serving political office holder? He acquired most of the properties as soon as he left office. How much was he paid as a governor to own properties i just mentioned. Even if lagos state government pay all his life entitlement can he afford to build those hotels and other properties? Try to watch the documentary pls, i know is political documentary but it was done in good faith. They did a good job and have good evidence to implicate Tinubu, such evidence can send him to jail but i guess we have a toothless government. AIT can't just publishing such without having evidence and good SAN by their side. By the way saharareporters has been publishing evidence about Tinubu before now but i guess the past two years Tinubu has dished out millions of dollars to close Sowore's mouth.

  36. Mike ozekhome is a man of questionable character. if you claim to fight evil, make sure your hands are clean. Since Tinubu refused Jonathan's offer on interim government, they have started blackmailing him. This dumbo Jonathan was licking TINUBU's ass in 2011 to beg for votes from SW, he knew Tinubu was a thief, right? Jonathan is the king ping of thieves. Simple as APC.

Tinubu may not be a saint, but he was cleared in 2011 shortly after the election. Somebody must be in coma when Abati said Obasanjo wanted to head Interim government.
