CLOMID VERSUS TAMOXIFEN

Stella. Thanks for this platform you have on your blog..
I know you have posted a lot about PCOS but i need some views from fellow blog visitors especially those who have gone through this same 'trying to conceive' train.

I got married 14 months ago and was recently diagnosed with PCOS. I visited a gynaecologist who placed me on tamoxifen for 5 days and folic acid as against the usual clomid for reasons he believes tamoxifen works better....

Please I need to know about success stories after the use of tamoxifen for PCOS.. What chances do I have with this drug?

Thanks in advance and God bless you abundantly...

SEVERE MORNING SICKNESS

Hi stella,

I need help curing or at least relieving morning sickness.i had severe
morning sickness with my 1st child where i had to be fed intravenously
for almost 6 weeks because all the anti nausea meds were not working
and this time around its trying to go the same route.

I have neither the time nor the resources to lie down and I throw up from morning till night. I have a toddler and a business to run.please BVs help me.i am constantly sick. And its affecting my output. Thank you Stella.

Hmm this early morning sickness humbled me i swear.Infact just reading your mail took me down memory lane......IT WAS HORRIBLE.
I was spitting 24hours a day, spitting as in it was gushing out from my mouth, heartburn, headache, throwing up,dizziness,I couldnt eat or drink water,i hated everything and everyone.cried all day in bed..my dear God is awesome.I tried dry biscuit, the one thats like cabin and it helped for a bit.i put up my feet and had cold towel over my head,it worked most times but one day i woke up and morning sickness was gone.....gone!

    5. Chaiii.. the mention of morning sickness ( in retrospect) made me nauseous while I read this. Till today, I can't bear the smell of that 'Gucci rush' perfume in a red square bottle. My God. Can't even look at the case itself cos it will make me sick again.

That was the perfume I was using whilst I was pregnant with my second baby.. and the smell became annoying all of a sudden. Imagine getting irritated by the same thing that u had a fetish for? Ahhh. That was me. And so many other things. Ahh heart burn was a principality in my life then. Eheheh

But it came after a few months tru the pregnancy, my doc warned me ahead of heartburn though. Gosh...cant begin to recount those days. But like Stella, miraculously the whole thing will just vanish and you'll be normal again. But not for everyone. As there are some women who are sick all through the 9months.

Try Jacobs crackers, or lime, and for me eating a lot of pepper helped. Spicy food... I ate the Jamaican curry oxtail like crazy when I was preggy. My hubby became a shareholder at the Jamaican spot near our hood back then...cos na him dey go buy am 3x a day. Ahahah it was crazy.

Severe morning sickness- just take it all as joy..,Ure a normal woman carrying a life in ur tummy,,,there are no two alike pregnancies so no ones advise could really help u,not even a family member would have been through ur exact crisis..u might have another pregnancy and feel entirely different..just make sure u get in as much food as possible..no matter what u throw up always replenish ,eat healthy use ur drugs, go on bed rest when ure to weak, don't miss ur ante Natals to make sure baby is fine, funny enough the baby is sucking up all ur nutrients and energy hence ure weak, wether u eat or not baby eats from ur fluids so u have to eat in order to be strong...u can buy things like agbalumo, carrots etc to keep ur tongue from being slurred and feeling like throwing up..ltrust me count this as joy.,it won't last forever..wish u the best.........Stella u must enjoy me

But the sickness stopped at 14-16 weeks for me sha. My friend vomited throughout her whole pregnancy so your case still has hope.

God bless my hubby cuz I vomitted the Eba we were eating together and he cleaned it up. I look at my son and I would do it all over again. By next year I'm going for round 2 so God help me hehe

    1. No worries Dear, my period only showed up 6weeks after I stopped breast feeding my son and that was when he clocked a year old. He also has vomiting techniques and I sing a lot too. Infact, I had to play some kiddies video for him from my phone so as to keep him occupied while feeding him. He vomits so much and hard that he vomits blood. But its all bygone now. The joy of motherhood. You just have to keep on keeping on.

    2. Loll. From ur comment I guess u are in the U.S. Gerber products are good, I fed my kids with Gerber at the beginning. But don't make it the only food for ur baby. Start to make mashed potatoes mixed with a bit of butter and gravy sauce.

U can give her Gerber as desert or for in between meals. I think babies like the banana flavour of Gerber the most. Have u tried it? Try and see.. don't stop trying new food till u find the one she likes.

As per ur period, I no know o. Did u have CS? See, doctors in America can be very bland and unresponsive.. They hate giving prescription and will play down any complaints u give them. U have to insist, if u have medicaid call them up and they'll refer u to specialists if need be. Keep disturbing ur OB/GYN oo.. I know what am saying

    1. @poster.. I have had severe morning sickness for my pregnancies..
Infact it was during my first my mom told me how she was like that all through her pregnancies..i quickly recalled how my sister didn't get herself until her 6th month!! That was when I realised I was in deep shit! I could not afford to be sick!

I usually take some days off to organise myself.. in these days,i crawl around like am dead..i have it all, nausea, spitting, general sickness(lol), bitter taste in the mouth, sensitive tongue,tommy,nose..just all round frustration!

I start by telling myself no one will do my job except me,other moms have done it!
You must convince yourself first from deep within.... it is not easy, but you can do it.

Then I refuse to get a cup for my spitting,i refuse to make it easier..i make trips to the bathroom each time I need to spit..hmm..that is the worst thing ever(cos you are usually so weak). When I remember how I have to go get the spit out..i swallow! Grossier!!!!!

Men need to realise that WE are pregnant. A helpful, sensitive hubby makes it easier...Let hubby help out as much as possible, that personally helps me so much. A dotting hubby makes a happy pregnant wife.lolzz

Never ever let yourself get hungry(my colleague told me this). Always have something healthy to nibble on..drinks are very okay.you cannot afford to be dehydrated cos of the constant spitting.

Putting bittercola in my mouth has never failed me even though there is a price to pay in my case(in the evening,i usually throw up all the liquid I sucked out,it hangs around the throat until it can get out) atleast it got me going at work right?

You might be selective here in terms of food, but you must eat well. Just try.

I try to look my best, wear bright colours.. nice flats or tiny heels..cute makeup..most importantly a bright smile.. no one needs to come say sorry(it is not a death sentence).. just bubble..
After these fights..mine disappears and I start to rock pregnancy.. you can do it darlyn.. tis not a disability...
All the best! If you still feel weak after all said and done..visit your doctor.. I landed in the hospital the first time and got some bags of drip..lol
      All the best trooper!

  39. Tamoxifen is used for cancer, never heard of it been used to treat Pcos.

  40. Poster 1: The commonly used drug for infertility caused by failure to ovulate is clomid. But tamoxifen sometimes could be prefer in some patients who have been on clomid without a positive response. I guess you were previously placed on clomid for sometime without positive effect. That might be the reason why the doctor changed to tamoxifen.
Poster 2: Doctors rarely give drugs to get morning sickness treated. But drugs are sometimes prescribed to pregnant women with excessive and disturbing symptoms. Severe vomiting is common in twin or multiple gestation. If excessive i advise you go see a doctor because dehydration and electrolyte derangement need to be corrected. Promethazine is usually prescribed for excessive vomiting and belladonna extract for excessive salivation.

Tamoxifen is more effective in inducing ovulation and making the lining of the womb more conducive for implantation of the pregnancy in women who are 40 years and above. It is true that it's also used in people surviving Breast cancer but also used for infertility treatment .I am a Gynaecologist .

  50. Dear poster with PCOS, I would advice you to take Metformin( glucophage) that's the best drug used to manage PCOS. I'm saying this because I was diagnosed with pcos in 2013 mine was so bad that I can stay without seeing my period for 3months and when it finally comes, it doesn't stop and it's so so heavy, I was always indoors, 2doctors even adviced me to get married fast so I can start taking fertility drugs but I didn't even need to take any fertility drug as I got pregnant with twins last year while planning my wedding (tho I lost 1). First my doctor placed me on primolut N for 21days(3 months) to normalize my flow, then I started taking Metformin and the 1st month I started ovulating again, I took in, now I have a baby, the most beautiful baby ever and she turned 3months yesterday.
