    3. Please, people need to find out the position of the law before making ridiculous comments.
Under the Nigerian Constitution, there is NO provision for the so called 'First Lady' title. This whole charade was started by Ibrahim Babangida.
Now, it's obviously not the portrait itself that's an issue, of she likes she can make it a life size picture sef. The issue is the title 'HER EXCELLENCY' She is not the governor, she is his wife.
That's the issue, this isn't about tribalism or 'haters' abeg. The law is the law. I choose to believe this was done without her consent. Probably some over zealous supporters thought it was the right thing to do.

  17. A quick check on the Rivers State Judiciary website got me this.

  30. What rubbish are des twitter rats yarning? 1st of all, every 1st lady is her excellency, cos that's how dey are addressed, 2: she is not just wikes wife, she's a judge in rivers state High court, so that idiota on twitter that said she's beauty without brains, I doubt if any of he's family member is a professional, then 3: I'm sure if her hubby is an apc governor, this portrait of hers won't be an issue, just cos he's PDP, it has now come under condemnation. Nigerians and double standard. U twitter users can like to hug transformer if d portrait is paining u. Or u go and snap ur own. No one's stopping them.

  31. Yoruba men too dey make noise on social network..What is d causer? Abi na joblessness? Whats wrong with her portrait pic? One idiot even called her beauty without brain..For crying out loud she is a Honourable Justice...her brain got her that title..so u jobless lowlifes should pick a struggle and leave Mrs Wike alone.

  32. I'm almost enraged at the level of witch hunting , diatribes, bile these ignorant cretins are spilling. I see so much hatred and jealousy.
Is it because she is not from their party?
Who doesn't commission a portrait? Even people do that in their homes.
    Didn't others take official photos?
    What is the big deal?

For those saying she will soon be out or Dakuku will be handed the position of governor by the tribunal. Wallowing in ignorance like pigs rolling in the mud. There is no evidence that Dakuku Peterside won the election, they may be evidence of mal practice by the Wike faction, and ofcourse these two were not the only contestants. The court may order a re run, and not hand Dakuku 1 million votes on a platter.
Any way it goes, these bitter souls should realise Wike is governor of Rivers state now and it is his wife's prerogative to be addressed by any name customarily used by occupants of the office, whether they like it or not. Gosh! Why are people so loud and rude? This ogundamisi and his cohorts are always so loquacious and uncouth. It's sometimes pitiful and enraging, other times.
I don't like all this pomp and pageantry, but I have sometimes heard governor's wives referred to as "her excellency"(correct me if I'm wrong), if not this, then it's an issue of semantics cos I know they have their own title too. Even local government counsellors in Nigeria bear 'honourable', not to talk of an honourable judge of the high court?
Why is he bearing 'Engr', is that even a title too?
    Pot calling kettle

    What is wrong with people?
You choose a person to hate and constantly berate him, whether he is good or bad and hate anything concerning him.
How many of these people have been to Rivers state? Just because they like Rotimi Amaechi, they pass the hatred to all his opponents.

As for the goon that asked whether she is a judge, wouldn't a stint, a quick search of google have saved you the public shame?

Our youths type before they think.
The scourge of semi-literacy mixed with needless partisan affiliation and tribalism is killing Nigerian twitter.

      I beg to differ.
Its not her prerogative. There is something called law and under the constitution, she is not a holder of a public office.
Yes, the manner in which some people express their opinions can be annoying but in this particular case, its not about sentiments or hating. At least for me it isn't.
I'm an APC supporter, this doesn't mean I'd look the other way if this were to happen to an APC Governor's wife.
We're talking about the law here.

      Thanks

Mrs B: note that I mentioned 'customarily'
Not everything is in the constitution and not everything not in the constitution is 'Wrong'. They are still many 'unwritten' things that happen as 'customs', 'practices' not dictated by any statute.
E.g even in trade, they are unwritten terms and conditions implied into any transaction. They are also things they call 'trade practices'. Customs of particular traders.
Even in Islam, there is something called 'urf' which are customs of the people that are not in the Quran and Hadith which the religion recognises.
It is the custom of Nigerians to refer to their president's wife or governor's wife as 'her excellency', this is not so in America. In England, they have titles they accord to wives of royalty each by rank up to the Queen herself and the Queen's husband, 'majesty, highness' and all that. These are long lasting customs. They hurt no one. If Mr B was governor, you will be addressed thus, whether you want it or not. Customs like that can't be broken easily.

Mrs Buhari didn't want her husband's office to shield her own achievements and said she won't be a 'first lady' but blimey! Today, everyone is calling her 1st lady, whether she likes it or not. Her own husband called her 'her excellency' to boot.
It's difficult to quarrel with culture. Even 'barrister' is not a title recognised by law but lawyers in Nigeria(esp) use it. Can you stop them?

I used the 'word' prerogative because she was pin pointed and separated for this 'smear campaign'. Tell me, was she the only one who did this? So why didn't we hear about others. Your use of the words 'it is wrong', I don't get it. Something must be bad on its merit not because it is not contained in a law. E.g saying that because 'olodurmare' as a title for God is not in the bible, it is not a legal title for God and 'a sin'.

If the campaign had been generally against all of them, I wouldn't have said so much.
This twitter scrutiny is a case of calling a goat a dog and giving it a bad name to hang it. No one knows if she is arrogant or haughty or disregards culture(must she put on jigida or gele) or aloof or anything. You can't know from a mere portrait.

    11. First, but nowhere did I state that 'It is wrong'
My point is that the office of the first lady isn't even constitutionally recognized, thereby is not a public office and as such, can not have an official potrait.
Referring to the governors wife (thanks for stating that if MrB becomes governor, I'd be addressed as Her Excellency, made me smile) as such is a different ball game from creating an entire office for a post that should not even be in existence.
I had already stated that my stance would be the same regardless. For me, its not about the APC or PDP.
Those that have taken it upon themselves to still keep pointing fingers at the opponents are clearly jokers.
At this point, the major concern should be how to make a better Nigeria, and not smear campaigns. I agree with you on that but my stance on this First Lady issue remains the same.
On another note its refreshing to engage in a discuss with someone who won't resort to insults.

  37. They should Ask GMB why he Address his wife yesterday as her Excellence. If it is APC is ok but if it is PDP then is wrong. Nonsense. Ada Agulu said so.

  38. If they like, they should tear their pant, tear their shirt, carry placard, demonstrate, etc. It can't change the fact that she will be addressed as 'her excellency'. Even their grand father Buhari whilst making his inaugural speech called his wife her excellency. They are jealous because she's finer than all APC first ladies. Hahahahahahaha.

So Wike get fine eyes like this, Bad guy. She's so pretty. Enjoy your tenure madam. God will give your husband wisdom to rule well. I want to be like you someday.

she isn't the only governor' wife with a portarit. its to be used whenever there is a news item that covers her activities, its not for PPP offices to hang on their walls. wonder who the 'ice block brain' that asked that dumb question is? ppp office ko? apc office nee!
