Sufferings Of Unpaid Workers In Osun State.

A man who has the Sickle cell disease works for the government and has to trek everyday to work because there is no money at all to take transport because he hasnt received his salary for six months......want to know who paid when he had crisis?
His landlord has also thrown out his stuff because of unpaid rent.

''Dear Stella,

Greetings to you from this BV and the entire BV family. I don't know if this is a chronical narrative oh. Well, na with a heavy heart from Osogbo in Osun State wey I sidon for this 4am dey type you this message. I’m a civil servant working for the state. Our government has refused to pay us our salaries for six months now, as you all know. Luckily for me I have a small business that’s putting small food in my family’s mouth. Many others aren't so lucky.

So, straight to the point: I have this acquaintance; we both work at the Government House at Okefia though not in the same department. We are low level staff but even our small salary we no see. This man depends fully on his salary, he has a son in primary school and he lives in a rented one-room apartment in Ojaoba, Osogbo. And this man is a sickler! Only God knows how they’ve been surviving.

Our ogas said we must be come to work every day, salary or not, so since this sickler doesn’t have transport money, he has been trekking to work at Government House, Okefia for some weeks now. Stella, it should be almost a kilometre EACH WAY if you’re driving oh, maybe even more, I tell you the truth. Osogbo people know what I’m talking about. Every day, na so him dey complain “My leg is paining me, my belle is paining me.” No money since to buy the medicine he takes to prevent his sickle cell crisis. And upon as he dey skinny and bony naturally, he don lose more weight join.

Well, late last month he was having serious crisis so they took him to Asubiaro hospital. The doctors there had to contribute small small money to buy medicine and treat him. The doctors there too don broke finish as no salary since, na only God go bless them. They treated him and discharged him. Now just recently he went into crisis again as he got back from work to his friend’s house where he has been squatting for some time now since his landlord wants to chase him for house rent. And as there was no money to go to the hospital, he just remained there in terrible pains.

It’s the small money his friend came back home with that he used to take injection at a chemist nearby meanwhile ideally he should have been on admission. But today, Monday, this man would trek again to work, maybe on an empty stomach, not sure of his next meal. This man that survived sickle cell wahala all these years, it is our government that wants to send him to his grave.

My people, please look at this and imagine what other people must be going through. This is just one person I know. Please help us ask our governor, Aregbesola, what we have done to him to deserve this. Fuel price is up, transport fare has increased (the small car I’ve been managing has spoilt again and no money to repair it so me and my children now na only public transport).

Food price is going up daily; NEPA came and cut my light two weeks ago because I haven’t paid bill, yet no salary! And Aregbesola has been receiving monthly allocation from Federal Government till March. Is this fair? Is this acceptable?

Let Aregbesola tell us how are we supposed to survive oh. How are we and our children supposed to eat? How are we to pay our rents, hospital bills, and even transport ourselves to our work and school? Now that Buhari that he used our salaries to campaign for has won, he has said he won’t give any state money to pay the salaries they are owing their workers. So what happens to us who bore the expenses of his campaign and success?

Why didn’t Buhari ask during the campaign where he was getting the money from to support him? After all it had been on the news since November that Aregbe hadn’t paid salaries. Why is it now that Buhari has won that he wants to start his righteousness? Does the end justify the means? Isn’t this gross insensitivity and sheer wickedness? Who will save us from such injustice? Who will speak for us? Who will fight for us and defend our most basic rights?

Please, my people, don’t remain silent in all this. If it isn’t stopped, it could be you suffering this tomorrow. Help us appeal to these our leaders to do the right thing! Help us appeal to Governor Aregbesola to alleviate our unjust suffering and pay us our six months’ salaries we have worked for. God bless you all''.

I DO NOT UNDERSTAND!!!...SOMEBODY PLEASE MAKE ME UNDERSTAND WHY PEOPLE WHO HAVE WORKED FOR THEIR MONIES CANNOT BE PAID...HOW CAN YOU OWE PEOPLE 6MONTHS SALARY?IT IS A CRIME AND CANNOT HAPPEN IN ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE WORLD...It is a violation of ones human rights.

WTF!

    1. Terrible situation, it's not only Osun state that's facing this situation. Kogi, Benue and some about 15 others states. The sad part is that we are made to go to work everyday, they are scared of going on peaceful demonstration or strike. I weep for this nation.

    2. And Rotimi Amaechi is also owing workers in River state yet Fayose they demonize everyday has paid his workers. Apc I hope Nigerians haven't entered one chance oo

    3. Dear poster , ur mail is quite touching as it is very wrong to owe workers their salaries. Even the holy book is so much against it. However, ur insinuation that ur governor used the state money to campaign for buhari is out of it. About 19 states are owing salaries and these 19 states include both pdp and apc states and has nothing to do with the party or campaigns. This is all as a result of mismanagement of funds by the govt in power, corruption by our so called elected leaders. Ur anger shld be directed to ur governor. It's a pity that our NLC is now a toothless bulldog especially after the exit of Oshiomole as the labour leader.

  2. This is indeed unfair.
A sickler having to trek 2km to and from work daily, with no renumeration whatsoever?
I hope they know his blood is on their hands if anything happens to him.

  7. OSUN CIVIL SERVANTS ARE YOU PEOPLE DAFT!! ARE YOU PEOPLE SO SCARED THAT YOU CAN NOT RISE UP COLLECTIVELY AND FIGHT AGAINST THIS INJUSTICE, AGAINST THIS INHUMAN TREATMENT, IT IS ABSURD, RISE AND CALL THAT MAN, ALL OFF YOUR OGA, CALL THEM BLUFF!!!. Why are Nigerians so lilly livered, this cannot not happen in a sane society. RISE UP AND BURN THAT STATE DOWN. How can you people be still going to work when you are being owed 6 months salary?? Your governor still collects allocation, security votes, and still awards contracts, pays his cronies and ass lickers, but won't pay workers. This country is as useless as anything can be now, no light, no fuel, no job, no money, workers are being owed months of salaries, what a hell hole. GOD WILL PUNISH EVERYONE THAT CONTIBRUTED IN BRINGING DOWN THIS COUNTRY TO ITS KNEES, EACH AND EVERYONE OF THEM.

  25. Naija just tire me I tell you!! See people standing on the road desperately looking for transport to work. How can a system be built to work against its very own?? The Nigerian system fights against any form of progress. Now I understand why some countries line up past leaders and execute them after office.

  33. All states have their own wahala. The governors has used money for campaign finish. Edo state too has refused to pay workers and these are on strike. Ogun state is owing teachers.
Please help us beg Ogun State governor to prevail on the State polytechnic to staff their associate lecturers. These work so hard still they're paid peanuts. They enjoy no benefits not even an ID card. If they can't be permanent staff, let the school authorities at least increase their salaries. I schooled there and in all honesty Stella, these associate lecturers teach way better than the permanent lecturers.

  39. Can some press men interview do the Governor? What's the cause? is it that allocation is not coming in or that the allocation is not enough to pay salaries? In the latter case he should pay at least half na or borrow money to pay...Resources will never be enough. Test of leardship is in being able to manage the few in a way that your followers would not complain bitterly. But this is terrible! something has to be wrong somewhere. i choose to not believe that the man decided to be wicked and not pay salaries

    1. Believe it or not, the man is just wicked! My siblings and I have been fending for my mum for the past 6 months. From the lille money she gets for her upkeep from us, she even takes care of her school from it. They went on strike the first time and he sacked all the workers that didn't go to work, people feared and resumed immediately... so many depressing stories from Osun state. This is so far the worst governor in their history.

But what saddens my heart is that so many people are so dumb that they think the fault comes from Jonathan. This Aregbe man can do no wrong in the sight of Osun indigenes it is only the civil servants that knows what they are passing thru.I wonder why they are still going to work self.

Osun state government owes the state university lecturers money coupled with fuel scarcity,i just pity them, thank God my lecturers are mostly clinicians, those that aint clinicians either take bus then trek or do not show up at all.someone's dad works with the state but they have not being paid since last year, lgs were paid last since january and they must be present at work, teachers have not being paid, they have gone on countless warning strikes.lautech hospital on strike, asubiaro hospital on and off strike.with all this,we heard the gov's son had a lavish party abroad which they are denying

  51. The system in place is setup to keep ppl poor all their lives. Imagine here in the west civil servant jobs are sought after because of their stability, great pay and good pension. Yet, In Nigeria civil service gives a penury existence at best. In 2015 this should not be anybody's reality, this sounds like something out of a 17th century Dickens novel. You probably have a better chance at survival living in the woods with poisonous snakes and vicious animals than in the cities of Nigeria.
