EFCC Arrests Former Gov Sule Lamido; Set To Face Trial Alongside His Two Sons Today

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Alhaji Sule Lamido, a former governor of Jigawa State for money laundering.

The governor’s two sons, Mustapha and Aminu were arrested in Abuja.

Here's what a source told Punch: “The former Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, and his two sons, Mustapha and Aminu, were arrested this morning by operatives of the commission. They were actually arrested very early this morning, they were with us for hours before they were flown to Kano for possible arraignment on Wednesday (today). They left Abuja Airport around2.30pm. It is most likely that they would be arraigned tomorrow (Wednesday), that I can tell you.”

According to Punch reportage,  EFCC had arrested the two sons of the governor in November 2015, over alleged misappropriation of billions of naira belonging to the Jigawa State Government.

Confirming the arrest of the former governor on Wednesday, Wilson Uwujaren, the head of media and publicity of the EFCC said:

“I can confirm to you that the former Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido and his two sons are with the commission.”

  2. I just hope that EFCC did their homework well. So the case will not collapse in the courts as usual.

    1. At the risk of sounding pessimistic, I must say that it's going to be business as usual. The prosecution is full of theatrics, they file up charges to excite the gullible masses who are not part of the intricately woven plot of deception. They raise our expectations like Super Eagles and smash them into smithereens. The prosecution will soon start backpedalling and the case will be thrown out for lack of diligent prosecution. Then they jump unto another case and the cycle spirals on. In times like this, I miss being a Jehovah Witness member for the firm belief that man's government cannot gratify our expectations.

    2. Well spoken. I may have to visit Jehovah Witness doctrine soon as I'm getting so despondent. I think I viewed Buhari as a messiah but frankly he's just a huge dissapointment

For real, dose EFCC pple are equally corrupt.all they do inbetween raising the hopes of d public and crashing it is to collect their own share of d loot and free d case.but then will u even blame them?whether dey insist or not,one big Oga from somewhere will use his influence and scatter d case even while in court.we live in a lawless society that even the judiciary stink of corruption.d whole system being upside down is d cause of all dese.

  8. EFCC should always have convincing evidence before arresting people. If not the court will set him for lack of evidence.

  19. If EFCC is sure they have a strong case against them they should atleast get a conviction this time around. I am starting to think that EFCC delibetately throws some of this cases and only bring their A game when it involves small fries. Just look at what happened in Tanzania of all places o; I am looking forward to the day we have something similar here.
