Surrogacy in Nigeia

Do people do it in Nigeria at all?

Do they use their own embryos or someone else'?

Is there any body or organisation that handles surrogacy matters in Nigeria?

Is there anyone on this blog who has ever been a surrogate Mother to anyone in Nigeria? How did it go?

Do you know any Surrogacy firm that handles stuff like this?.

    2. Yes Stella,they do.
I work in a fertility clinic in lagos
It depends on d condition of the patient's eggs, some have good eggs but just can't tk or always miscarry,in this case we use d woman's eggs
However if the patients eggs ain't good enof,we use donor eggs not that of the surrogate o,d surrogate is strictly a carrier who never gets to meet d couple, we prefer someone that has given birth before(experience)
Once the baby is born,d surrogate will not even hold d baby or babies, they just carry the child away to d original parents n d surrogate paid off. Even if the surrogate sees d couple, nothing can happen in future cos d child doesn't carry her DNA.
D issue of egg donation lol
we have unilag girls always hovering around our clinic hoping to donate eggs for a fee of abt 150k. Its like a business to dem.
Here being young, fine, intelligent, tall, halfcastish, dark plays a role, dey are the one who must not see the couple.
The girls r asked to remove every artificial thing on their body,(weaves, lashes, makeup, nails)then we take their pictures and create profiles for them in an album stated everything abt den so the couple ll be handed d album to choose n dey make their choice from there.
The girls go thru series of test n if selected treatment (drugs n injections) abt 3 months b4 d eggs r harvested. Dey collect their 150 abi 200k n waka.
We have a regular customer sha lol, fine tall dark girl with great eggs(tested and proven)
The babes eggs don't dey plenty families now, let's hope d children don't find her in future cos she don't born tire.lol
Surrogates get nothing less than a million for 1 successful delivery,n it keeps adding if u carry twins.
My hand don dey pain me.
      Bye

    4. Folarin dear, *in tuface voice* You don't wanna go down there.
Aunty nurse you forgot to tell us that there are people who are agent and gets. Out of the said 150k which could be around 20 to 30k. And it's no longer 150k it's 120k with the donor left with 100k or even less.
      I hail Unilag girls sha

    1. I know 2 people who have done it
First one has a child she birthed but went thru a lot of difficulties and didn't want another experience so got a surrogate, her egg and husband's speed was implanted in their surrogate and they paid her well

The other hasn't been successful with pregnancies and she used twice

    2. People just open their mouths and talk rubbish. Who told you it's not African culture? At least I can speak for Yoruba people who have been doing this surrogacy from time immemorial although only within families o. Example- ny mother's biological mother (who she always and forever refers to as her Aunty) gave her to her mother (who is biologically actually the Aunty) after she was weaned off the breast, to be brought up as her child; this is who she calls her mum. My biological grandparents had kids before and after my mum. It was not a secret, the whole family was in the know and it was done because my other grandmother couldnt have any kids of her own.

    1. Bootylycious diva. Want which her child. It's not her's, it's the person's egg that is used. There won't be any traces of her DNA in the baby she is carrying.

  7. People do it but it's not in the open. I know someone that used a surrogate. She was taken to a different city to birth the child after then she returned.

    1. The person I know has 3kids and they're all through surrogacy. The women don't even see the kids after birth to avoid unnecessary attachment and she does not even know the family she's doing it with but the family knows her. Before everything they go to investigate her background first.

  8. I think there are people who do it here in Nigeria afterall someone showed interest to be a surrogate mum on IHN. I wonder how such women are able to detach their emotions from the child after delivery, won't be an easy one o.

    1. The one I know of they didn't even allow her see the child. As soon as the child came out the took him away

    2. When the egg and sperm isn't yours I'm sure it will be easy because you don't have claims to the child. Even if the egg is yours, you have no claim to it.

  16. I think anyone considering getting the services of a surrogate mother should go to organisations that handle it.
Do not deal directly with individuals because most of them are highly fraudulent, behind that "innocent" girl telling you she can do it for free or for a little token is a badass cartel waiting to blackmail you and hold you to ransom for life!

If you must do it,do it legally..sign documents and involve a lawyer.. Don't be fooled.

Even married women offer to be surrogate mothers but wit d consent of their husbands. Dey stay in d hospital for 10 months. D hospital take care of u frm d onset of d pregnancy to d end. D women ar paid 45k everymonth for d 10months. Den after everything, tthey ar paid abv 1mil for settlement.

  25. My uncle's wife couldn't carry her own kids sadly. So she used a surrogate. The surrogate was her immediate younger sister. They used the surrogate eggs and my uncle's sperm. Sadly when she died ( uncle's wife) , her sister tried unsuccessfully to take the girl. This happened in the early nineties. They all disappeared for a year or so to do it.

  26. Sure very well. I had a friend who came from Sierra Leone 2 do it here in nigeria. It's a story Stella. A big one but then the pay is good plus you get feeding and accommodation. I can't o.

  29. Yes Stelz. I wrk in a fertility clinic on d Island (Lagos). We hv young gals above 18yrs of course. Dey carry d douple's embryo if d couple is capable of getting theirs. Buh wen it's impossible 2 get eggs 4rm d woman, we can use d surrogate gal's eggs. D gals usually neva get 2 meet d couple face 2 face. Dis is 2 avoid future legal complications. D gals r paid off by d clinic afta delivery. Most of our clients r high end, d charges r usually in millions. D gals r mostly 4rm below average homes. Dey r sourced by staff of d clinic, designated 2 such duties, n dey r properly screened 4 diff diseases b4 dey can b used.

  31. It happens in abuja but in a coded way. It is also very expensive to do so right now the average nigerian in that kinda situation prefers to buy black mkt babies for lower prices.

It is a welcome development tho. At least women will know there are other options for them

    ReplyDelete
  32. They do it in abuja, some years ago a friend asked me if am interested and would be paid some amount of money but I can't o

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yes. It is available as a service in nigeria and almost all the fertility clinics are into it. However, a lawyer is involved and a go between btw the commissioning couple and the surrogate. Its rewarding and haS HELPED SET UP A LOT OF YOUNG LADIES WHO WOULD OTHERWISE NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO CONTINUE THEIR EDUCATION OR SET UP THEIR BUSINESS

    ReplyDelete
  34. The Bridge Clinic does I think through one of their sister companies called ASPIRE. They used to be on Tiamiyu Savage in V/I but now I'm GRA on Oduduwa street or crescent. They will educate the auto gate mother and Lawyers are involved. You are informed of your rights, the do's and don't involved in the whole process. They've had successful births recorded.

  35. I have a friend dat did it, d woman dat carried d baby for her is a married woman. And it's an agreement btw her n her husband. I was even d one dat was with d woman when she was delivering. After cleaning d baby up and dress him, the woman handed d baby over to me Becos d money has been transfered to her account. She's so heartless cos she didn't look at d baby twice.

Sweetheart if you've had a baby you will understand why she didn't look at the baby twice...she most likely did it to avoid any sort of attachment to the baby which can easily happen.

  36. I know of a christian organization in abj dat you can get a surrogate mum,but dey will tell not to expect any monetary compensation but if d couple decide to compensate you fine,i heard abt them on radio, they were even talking to pple to vounloteer

  37. Stella it is done in Nigeria. My aunty and uncle have been married for almost 20yrs no child. Her womb couldn't hold a pregnancy. They used her eggs and my uncle's sperm. They paid the surrogate 100k monthly and after d birth of the child they gave her 1m. Everything was arranged by a fertility clinic. They never met the surrogate. Another friend of mine did it too....but private arrangie....between herself, her husband, her mum and the surrogate. Everything went well till delivery but after 4 days d baby died. E be like say the surrogate no take care of herself well during pregnancy. My friend was devastated.
