Jonathan’s Officials Secretly Return Government Properties In Fear Of Buhari

According to Leadership, Government officials who served under the administration of former President, Goodluck Jonathan are already heeding the recent directive by President Muhammadu Buhari for them to return some of the government properties they took with them as they left office.

It was learnt that some former top government officials were secretly returning the assets which include: vehicles, generating sets and furniture to the ministries, agencies and even some departments at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa from where they were taken.

Also, those whose families are still occupying government buildings are said to have started asking them to quickly vacate the place on the pretext that they were staying there without their knowledge, after they had returned to their respective states or travelled abroad.

Leadership newspaper also gathered from a top presidency official that
some of the past government officials, mostly former President Goodluck Jonathan’s men, had been calling to explain themselves, insisting that some of the property were taken either by their family members or close aides without their consent.

The top presidency official, who pleaded anonymity, however noted that despite the last-minute effort being made by these former officials to save their head from the ongoing probe directed by the president, they would still be made to explain their actions which were tantamount to sharp practices.

According to the source, “Throughout today (yesterday), we have been receiving calls from some of the former aides and officials of government who claim that whatever was still in their possession were taken and were being kept either by their family members or personal assistants.

“Some even claim that they were aware that their family members were still living in government buildings while they were away in their hometowns, or abroad where they are on vacation. But their explanations amount to nothing but medicine after death. Whether they return the property or not, they must face the law because what the president is angry about is the action itself.”

On whether the committee set up to go after the culprits had identified them, he said, “We have the names of most of them on ground already. What the committee is doing at the moment is to ascertain whether due process was followed before they took the property as their personal possessions.

“Once discovered that they did not buy them in line with the monetization process initiated by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, they will still be prosecuted.”

The practice of collecting things from office after tenure did not start with the Jonathan Administration so please make we hear word.It did not start with him and might probably continue even with President Buhari.

    6. @Queen I'm with u on this. Stella let me tell u something ehn, forget about what happened or didn't happen before Jonathan or Buhari.. the point is that henceforth, order must be put in place.

This attitude of ex government officials is the reason for the enormous financial wastage in our governance. When something is meant to serve and make u comfortable while in office, and u didn't follow due process to acquire and make it ur personal property, why take it with u after office? This is why they keep buying and buying and approving new budgets for the same things every bloody time.

Did u not notice that when Buhari started they wanted to buy him new sets of bullet proof cars again, when the ones Jonathan used are still perfectly ok.. that's because they are used to NOT accounting for what should remain after a person leaves office. It's a total waste.

Look at the uncompleted building for the VP that u published yesterday.. see how many times the Senate approved monies for the same project, yet they abandoned it and squandered the monies. If someone has made a person liable for it, would this have happened?

It is time for accountability and responsibility. Enough of the wastage and dubious acquisitions by these greedy asses

  3. The level of impunity is alarming. The era people think anything goes has come to an end. Buhari should continue. All those talking about witch-hunt...he must start from some where and d only logical place to start is d previous administration. Just the fact people know that he can actually prosecute them is the right step in the right direction.

  5. All these people should go and rest. No be today. Even in the Universities and moat government parastatals, most staff confiscate government properties and do what they like with them. It's not major news. It's not like they are afraid of being jailed cos I know with the help of good lawyers they can get away but just that they don't want their names to appear in the news.

  9. The Niger Delta Ministry, NDDC, 13% derivation- yet the inhabitants of that area keep living in misery. The suffering populace of Niger Delta 're made to believe that the rest of the country is their enemy whereas, the enemy that never allow what is meant for their development is within. Too bad stealing is seen and celebrated as breakthrough in Nigeria, even by the Churches and Mosques. May God have mercy on us!

  10. " In the end, the question is whether, in the Jonathan years, what passed for governance in Nigeria was one, and whom it benefitted.

The time has come for those who ran Nigeria to answer questions about what they actually did, and how.  It is a question of justice, not opinion.

Where I come from, that is called “answering your father’s name.”  It is actually a simple question, unless you have no idea whom your father is.

In that case, you might call the question malicious, or a witch-hunt".

So Stella can take several seats back & observe proceedings from behind!

Rt Hon Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi did not turn Rivers Government House to a sex den.
Rt Hon Amaechi is a husband,a Father and above all a Christian who loves God and His Words. Please disregard that malicious publication that was aimed at tarnishing the image he worked tirelessly for eight years as a Governor to build. His giant strides as the past Governor of Rivers State are still being applauded. Please, let's join hands with this great agent of change to move our nation to the great promised Land.

I meant that it is not only in Jonathans government that furniture lootng started so why are they making his own headline news.I meant they should stop dragging out Jonathans name with every theft...How could he possibly have known someone kept a spoon meant to be returned?

And i meant that even after Buhari sanitises and leaves, they will still do it.The rot is too deep!

    3. Stella, uneasy lies the head that wears the crown. Jonathan will keep being in the news because he headed the squad that carried out the loots or whatever else.

From the way Buhari is going, when he leaves office, do u think that any of his workers would be bold enough to steal or keep govt property? Judging by what he's doing to others now? That's the point, sanitization starts from the bottom...but the head supervises the process so that his own administration is not met with the same corrupt practices. This is what the others should have done, not only GEJ, I mean the ones before him too.

But since Buhari has started the process, the sanitization will be perfected in time.

  30. @Blog addict, you call the power supply we have now 'little'? Hian!!! You must be living at the backyard of Nigeria then which explains why the power supply getting to ur area is 'little'.

If what we have now is 'little', in one word, describe what we had in the last administration.
If not all the time, be truthful once in a while. Dont be sentimental to d extent that you will tell lies on issues that are so crystal clear such as this.

Stella, I am sure if PMB is not making efforts to make things right, you will still write that he is also towing the lane of his predecessor. For how long do we want things to remain the way they are,yet we all pray for a better Nigeria? It has to start from somewhere and with someone. It takes so much courage and boldness for a leader(especially in this part of the world) to be so determined to deviate from the wrong norms that has been in existence and push through to make desirable changes. Talking about what will happen after PMB's reign,, lets hope for the best and expect that whoever takes over from him will do even better.
