ReplyDeleteI could write a thesis on this topic as it's a discussion I just had with a colleague a not so distant time ago.
ReplyDeleteThe Nigerian music industry is currently faring better than the movie industry in terms of global reach, revenue, and cultural influence.
Although I still think that Nollywood isn't so far behind and considering the quality of movies they are producing these days, I believe it's undergoing a steady transformation that may see it catch up in the near future.

DeleteMusic can reach you easier than a movie. Viewing a movie is an intentional activity where you carve time out to watch it, but music can reach you just about anywhere. Music can come through a TikTok video, advertising, in a public bathroom, or on the radio, so it is far easier for music to reach ppl than movies.

We don’t have a movie of global standard. Movies that people that are not of African descent can watch and enjoy. Our movies are repetitive, simplistic and lack intellectual stimulation.
