Okorienta was reported to have been captured in his hideout at Aku-Ihube, Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State by troops of the 34 Artillery Brigade in a joint operation with sister security agencies.
According to the military, the operation led to the recovery of several exhibits, a cache of arms and items, including one English pistol, 120 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 25 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, a cartridge, six mobile phones, military and police uniforms, as well as a German flag.
Troops also said they uncovered a workshop used for dismantling stolen vehicles for resale and destroyed 10 motorcycles found at the scene.
Military intelligence reports suggest he was responsible for organizing “enforcement squads” that carried out violent attacks whenever residents defied sit-at-home orders in parts of Anambra and Imo.
For years, residents of the South East have been living under a blanket of fear as gunmen linked to Gentle De Yahoo unleashed terror on communities.
He was accused of being responsible for the series of kidnappings and mindless killings going on in the southeast region, including the killing and beheading of a couple serving in the Nigerian military when they traveled to Imo state for their wedding.

At least Okigwe and Imo state will now breathe from the reign of terror by these hoodlums.
ReplyDeleteStella, he's not an ESN commander. Don't mind the narratives being churned out there just to link him to IPOB led by Nnamdi Kanu. Gentle the yahoo works for Simon Ekpa and belong to the autopilot group known as the unknown gun men. If you follow his speech often, he never mentioned himself as an IPOB or ESN. He hasn't for once stopped saying he's the commander of the Biafra liberation army (BLA).
ESN don't put on Army camouflage. In the coming days, IPOB will give a press statement to this.

While I rejoice over this, I won't fail to express the double standard of the Nigerian government and security operatives over issues like this. The northern terrorist are walking freely. In fact, they attended peace deal meeting wielding guns and magazines on their neck. They will be giving pardoned, flown abroad and reintegrated into the military and then send them to the Eastern part of the country.
ReplyDeleteBut when it has to do with the Eastern Nigeria, you will see the Army showing muscles. What did Nnamdi Kanu did compare to these northern terrorist. Yet for over four years , he's still held in solitary confinement. When you draw up this sentiment now, someone benefiting from the system will crawl up and call you tribal bigot.
Are there people more Nigerian than the others?
These are the issues that paved way for the agitation the South East has been clamouring for and it won't ever go away.
