Lagos Health Commissioner Warns Onlookers To Stop Filming Accident Victims, Save Lives First

The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, has issued a strong public warning urging onlookers to stop filming accident victims and instead prioritize saving lives.

This call came during a stakeholders’ symposium marking World Trauma Day 2025, where the Commissioner represented by Dr. Olawale Adegbite highlighted the disturbing trend of bystanders obstructing emergency operations with their phones....

Speaking at a stakeholders’ symposium in Lagos to mark the 2025 World Trauma Day, Abayomi, represented by the Director of Medical Services, Dr Olawale Adegbite, lamented that “onlookers often obstruct emergency operations with their phones while lives are slipping away.”

“Every time we block an ambulance or ignore an emergency call, someone’s parent, spouse, or child could be dying. Trauma care begins with public responsibility,” he said.

Abayomi urged Lagosians to respect ambulances and prioritise life-saving interventions over videos.
He stressed that trauma care was not solely the government’s duty but a “collective moral and civic responsibility.”

  1. Honestly this have so gone out of hand, especially in this Lagos.. as an onlooker, saving lives should be the first thing to do but instead they will bring out their phones and start recording…humanity is gone

It’s a crazy, nasty piece of work

  5. Firstly, the directive should go to police and hospitals, accident victims shouldn't be treated as criminals, hospitals try to avoid police issue.
Why is a big city like Lagos and Abuja not having active rescue units people can call when they see things like this?
The quest for likes, follow and comments has eroded empathy from our society.

Now if they don't steal victim's phone or money, they video scene for tiktok and facebook 😞
