On Tuesday October 14, 2025, Nigeria's Super Eagles whopped Benin Republic 4-0 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium to officially qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs set to take place in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
Nigeria finished second in Group C, and missed out on automatic qualification due to South Africa’s 3–0 win over Rwanda.
They ranked among the top four runners-up in Africa, earning a spot in the CAF playoff mini-tournament scheduled for November 2025.
The playoffs will feature six teams from different confederations competing for two final World Cup spots.
