I was handling a maintenance job in his house when a young man who was contracted to supply and install solar panels and inverters arrived. He was to be mobilized that very day but then something happened.
While he was waiting to see Oga, he engaged in a discussion with Oga's driver. What was it all about? Political arguments. I didn't know how it all started. He didn't spare the party currently in power and more also, he hit hard on the ex governor who is an associate to the man he came to work for.
While the argument was ongoing, he didn't know Oga who was inside, was hearing their conversations and argument. Stylishly, I was giving him signal to discontinue the argument for I know it's unethical and unprofessional a thing to do. I guess he didn't understand it.
The driver understood what I was doing and at a point, stopped responding to him. When Oga finally came out, he asked him if he's a politician? He said no. He asked again how much of politics and administration did he know? He couldn't answer as well. Lastly he asked him if he will work for someone or group of people he described as criminals? That was the final blow on him. Then came the order for him to leave which he did immediately. I felt pity for him but he brought it upon himself.
If there's one thing I have learnt in life, I will say is to bridle my tongue when found in a strange and new environment. Secondly, study the environment properly for you can't really say the affiliations or interest of the people you're around with. It might cost you a lot just like this young man who lost a contract worth almost ten million naira.
Politicians will always be politicians, never let politics of bitterness interfere in your private business or professionalism. When I see people using a business identity or image to rudely criticize politicians, I will say that's the most unwise thing to do, for you really can't say and know who your next client might be.
As someone who studied accounting, I will tell you this. One accounting principles is that, a business venture is distinct from the owner. What does that mean? A business has a different face from its owner. A business and its owner are two different entities, meaning you're accountable to your business. When it's business, let it be strictly on business. Never involve personal issues, interest or even politics to it.
Three sensitive things I am careful while discussing with people are:
ReplyDelete1. Religion
2. Tribe
3.political interest.
Some people can kill for any of this.
So, T.J., all these your political criticisms end on this blog?
ReplyDeleteIf I may ask, can you sincerely tell me why you stopped criticizing the APC on this blog? Is it because of giveaways, or because you need “peace of mind,” like you said?
If you can’t tell a bad person to their face that they and their works are bad, then you are not a true son of Igbo land.
“Igbo enwe Eze” doesn’t mean we Igbos don’t have a king. It literally translates to: No matter your money or position in power, if you do something bad, we Igbos will call you out, because we fear no one and bow to no one.
Eze mee ajo ihe, ekpuru nkata n’iru gwa ya okwu.
I’m a businessman, and if you are a business associate of mine and an APC supporter, I will tell you plainly that I’m not pleased with the APC regime. If you get angry and decide not to do business with me because of that, then f*ck off.
You see people like Cubana Chief Priest, E-Money, Arthur Eze na Ukpo, and all the APC ass-lickers, I can never identify with them.
I have my integrity to protect jealously.
If I happen to know your Honourable, I will always tell him that they are full of sh*t.
T.J., no wonder BVs always say you talk from both sides of your mouth.
Please Tj, don't ever say you are a man of integrity next time.
I think you're getting it all wrong here. I guess you're not following my comments here. I still criticize the APC government till date but I can't do that exposing my business knowing the kind of government we have. I have learned to do the constructive criticism when I have no proof of a thing.
DeleteThis is the reason I will never advertise my job/handwork here or exposé my identity here. So it got nothing to do with a giveaway.
Like I said, it isn't wise to put one's business on the line with personal issues. A business should wear a different face from its owner.

I am always shocked to see people using a business handle to engage in tribal, politi6or religious wars.
ReplyDeleteBeing that careless for a politician who doesn't know you and can even decamp to the other side tomorrow.
E dey happen even on this blog
Politicians wey dey enjoy their life dey go,poor man come go argue politics come loose in daily bread.
ReplyDeleteI won't because of any political affiliation loose a job to spite myself. As far as the job is a honest job,I would do my job and collect my cash.
The people wey dey talk say make you no do honest biz with certain politicians no go give you 10kobo if you ask them, same people would call you lazy and entitled.
I don't even really care about political parties and co.
